The title's not ironic, this is just a game of Skull in a pub. Go check out everyone's channels, too! (I know we played a bit fast-and-loose with some of the rules, too: we didn't always start with the right player, and Rohin should have been able to pick which card he threw away. It's just a game!)

Its interesting to examine the different ways everyone plays a card down. Liv has them face-down on the table and simply places a chosen card on the mat, Tom holds his cards in a fan and deliberately takes a moment to choose and even when playing a "safe" flower card, picks from the middle of the fan to keep things in-question, Mark casually slides a card out from the bottom of his pile like its nothing and Rohin hides his cards behind the table in an attempt to appear mysterious at the cost of actually paying attention to what he's putting down.

That would be interesting, but it would produce significantly longer games - as things stand, you can't go beyond five rounds per player (and rounds must keep getting shorter), but if players kept the cards they took, you could potentially go for ever with two players passing a single flower back and forth
@luelou8464

You could just use regular French playing cards, with number cards for the flower cards, and an ace for the skull.

@@Swisswavey Yep. As a kid we played this and called it "aces or faces" - essentially same game with ace = skull, face cards = flowers

I forgot how much I'd missed Tom Scott videos filmed with a camera (or set of cameras) in the middle of a table surrounded by people, and at least one camera shooting other perspectives.

Love the fact that tom is wearing red and his cards are red, the blue is blue, the white-yellowish (yellowish because of the light in her right) is yellow and the shirt looks, that looks a bit purple, has the purple cards.

What an amazingly simple game. I had never heard of Skull before. I have more than a few questions about some nuances of the rules, but I really want to give it a try. I've played a LOT of tabletop games with varying complexity. So to find a game that I've never heard of which has both depth and simplicity is thrilling.

This is great content Tom (I'm already a big fan of you, Liv and Rohin!), and honestly the sort of thing many youtubers might offer on their premium pay to watch type offering. That you are making this sort of thing available for free is really fantastic, thanks! Also, I really appreciate how your videos are always impeccably subtitled, it's a small thing but really helpful. Thanks! Little edit: Also Rohin massively undersold himself at the end there, he's a witty, nuanced and knowledgeable communicator of science and how to think about science, with some shitposting mixed in..
