you mentioned a comment from your shadowbringers reaction, thing is, when the 1.0 trailer was released, nothing about shadowbringers was thought of, 1.0 was considered an failure and under a new producer, Naoki Yoshida, they rebuilt the game from the ground up to create A Realm Reborn, while this was happening, story elements were added to 1.0 as a lead up to the servers being shut down so that 2.0 could be implemented. With each expansion the writers would pick at those story points and flesh them out more, so the characters in the 1.0 trailer were supposed to be stand ins for the players and while the human does continue to be the player stand in for all trailers, the others get repurposed in later expansions, though technically the human gets dual purposed, it's complicated but makes perfect sense later.

This represents an almost completely abandoned chapter of the FFXIV story, though this is worth seeing for some realizations way, way down the line to see this first party that become relevant in Shadowbringers as homages to what happened in the past. The sky fight you're seeing is the destruction of the empire's major weapon against Eorzea: the airship Agrius. It was destroyed by Midgardsommer but it 'killed' him too, which is one of the few things from 1.0 that actually gets an active story point in 2.0 (ARR) and beyond. At this point with the game (1.0) , the idea of multiple worlds wasn't even involved as yet. This character's ability to see future events does get preserved in later parts of FFXIV's WoL (warrior of light/the player avatar) but it's inverse: we can see events of the past, sometimes as a floating observer apart from everything, sometimes as the person themselves that triggered the vision. Trivia: The 'kraken' like monster is also a classic FF monster in general, the marlboro (yes, like the cigarette and its most powerful attack is literally its terrible breath that inflicts virtually every possible status ailment on anyone caught in it). For the sake of avoiding lawsuits (and occasionally to make it fit into limited text space in older games), they usually go with "Malboro", "Malbro" and so on in English.
