The line "War... War Never Changes" is to the Fallout setting what "May the Force be With You" is to Star Wars. It's the tagline of the entire franchise. Also, the code "101097" is the date the 1st Fallout game dropped, Oct. 10 1997. The city at the end is the remains of Las Vegas, renamed "New Vegas" after the war. And the mean lookin' skull was a Deathclaw, which grew/mutated/was created by mad scientists from the Jackson Chameleon.

That skull was off a Deathclaw, the apex predator of the Wastes in the Fallout universe. Nasty creatures who can kill you in seconds. As for the city at the end, that's New Vegas, which is where the game Fallout :New Vegas takes place, in addition to the surrounding Mojave area. Mr. House, one of the bigwigs at the meeting and CEO of Robco, became New Vegas' defacto leader, ruler, and protector in the aftermath of the war. He sought to bring it back to it's "old world" glory.

I think Maximus will become a major power. Though I don't know if that will be next season or in the future, maybe in games beyond the scope of the series. It depends on how much he buys into the Brotherhood (I'm betting now that his abusivefamily is embracing him, he goes all in, especially with Dane's encouragment), how fast he rises in influence within the Brotherhood, and how he interprets his mission "to hurt the people who hurt me." Will he pursue it narrowly seeking revenge against Hank, or broadly making war on VaultTec? I think it's significant that VaultTec is 2-3 decades away from opening the vauts, and expect that Maximus will lead the Brotherhood in the war that follows.

The worst part is the fact that Shady Sands was founded by Vault 15. It was a Vault Tec community and the NCR was a result of Vault Tec’s planning and it was successful. This makes Hank not only a horrible person but a hypocrite as well. Also Vault Tec did not drop the bombs but that’s only something you would know from the games. Vault Tec was prepared to drop them if peace talks succeeded but that never happened. China dropped them first followed by the U.S. and Vault Tec. In the games we see Vault Tec was caught off guard completely. China sent nuclear subs and you can find one in the games. The captain is a ghoul and he tells the main character that China dropped the bombs first and his target was Boston. Seeing that last shot of New Vegas is so cool. It’s a major location in one of the games. It was the only city not hit by the bombs during the war. And it’s run by Mr House CEO of Robco who you may have noticed at that table during the meeting.

New Vegas in ruins during the credit scene was sad. The Vegas strip was nearly untouched by the Great War. Mr House, the ceo of Robb Co in that shadowy meeting, lived there. He didn’t completely trust the other members and had his city protected by an “iron dome” type middle defense system. The casinos still stood almost completely intact and operating. Your mission in Fallout NV was to choose which faction would control the Mojave wasteland and NV strip. The NCR, Caesar’s Legeon, Mr House, or a free strip governing itself.

The Brotherhood was completely beaten down earlier and hiding in a bunker. I’m guessing after the events of the game, Cesar was beaten and his remaining legion joined the brotherhood. That would explain them giving members Roman names

I get that Dane cutting THEIR foot seems extreme, but keep in mind, in this show, they have the brotherhood looking like full on religious zealots. Faking sick wouldn't have done anything. He'll, if Dane had suggested that they shouldn't go out to the wastes because if having an upset stomach the elder would have either shamed Dane for suggesting the mission be put on hold for something so small. Or worst case, had Dane killed for cowardice.

No pets in the vault. That doesn’t mean no animals for experimentation. I don’t think Moldaver is completely the good guy. She brutally killed people in vault 33 to get Hank. You can argue that it was necessary to commit an evil act for the betterment of mankind. That’s the Utilitarian argument, that the ends justifies the means, not the Golden Rule. When Hank says “she’s the same as me”, he’s finally telling the truth about himself, but he’s also telling the truth about Moldaver. Moldaver is not good, even if her goal was good. The only good character is Lucy, still hanging on to her principles. The Golden Rule is not merely an empty platitude, it’s something she tries to practice-and feels guilt when she makes mistakes. What is the Golden Rule? It shows up in many civilizations. Many of us will be more familiar with the biblical formulation, “Love thy neighbor as you love yourself”. It boils down to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. This has further implications: you do not use people as non-consenting instruments to further your goals, especially killing them. The obvious exception is when it’s direct self defense, and it’s unavoidable. I’ll keep it at that. There’s a lot of nuance to explore in the characters of this show. But the point is that this show has a moral core and the writing wrestles with fundamental issues. It brings alive the otherwise dry arguments of philosophy. And that’s why it is so deeply satisfying.
