IOWA was just brutal,the whole album is pure hatred the band was just off tour,put in the studio and told "make another album" most of the band mates were on drugs,had problems with alcohol,exhausted,at each other's throats their label wanted them to make "an album of Wait and Bleeds" (a lot more chill song) and they turned up with imo,the heaviest album ever,not because of sound,because of how raw it is their producer pushed them to their limits,motherfucker was throwing potted plants at them mid recording to annoy them Corey was absolutely destroying his voice,the fact this man can still sing and scream is nothing short of a miracle,he had almost no technique to do this,he just fucking screamed and went through the pain,with the help of some substances and a lil booze in his system the producer again,said that if Corey threw up after a take it was a good one,and on the Album title song Iowa,towards the end,there are screams of actual pain,Corey cutting himself with a broken glass or something to get actual screams plus the other band mates not showing up on time or at all for recordings,drummer only showing up late to record the drums alone (iirc) an executive from another label said "if they are the future of music i dont wanna be alive" and after slipknot blew up,they sent him a bouqet of dead flowers saying "we are the future of music and we want you dead", Heretic Anthem is about it edit: also Corey about this song being about bullying "if you never felt this anger you were never bullied" otherwise great guys
