everyone knows about the one piece, it's location is suspected by some to be on a hidden island at the end of the grandline, and at least one living person knows where and what it is. looking for it makes you a pirate. finding it makes you the king of the pirates, effectively the king of the seas, and one piece's world is mostly ocean. the government naturally doesn't want competition, so they kill anyone who gets close to finding the one piece, resulting in the yonko, or four emperors. the yonko are four pirates who are so strong the government can't kill them, and they're the closest to finding the one piece.

Not everyone is looking for the one piece the act of trying to find it is a crime punishable by execution several powerful people are stopping people from looking for Gold Rodgers treasure only his crew knows where it is and a few people outside of his crew knows how to even look for it everyone else just has a location the grand line for a size comparison the entire Naruto versus is the size of one large island in the one piece verse and to top it off the sea itself in the grand line activity try’s to murk you so in the 26 years since the pirate king was executed no one has found it and the last island it is located on no one made it there for atlest 800years before him it’s a hidden island erase from history
