I just finished Ys 8 on Switch and I loved it so much. The gameplay was addictive and the story was pretty good also. Easily the best Ys game in my opinion. It was the only game that I regretted playing on the Switch lol. Not because of the performance or the graphics (which I find them fine) but because the Switch version doesn't have Trophies/ Achievements and I almost did %100 that game. I'll get Ys 9 after watching your review and playing the demo. I think it's going to be the first JRPG that I'll aim to platinum.

I like the fact that a developer like that can make a game that's not as high definition as a lot of the things out there but focuses the effort on story and gameplay. I just recently picked up Origins and Ys 6 on sale and I'm having a great time.

I'm really enjoying Ys IX so far. I wasn't too much of a fan of Celceta but I'm probably in the minority. I also really enjoyed Ys Origin, but it's a different game mechanic than VIII/IX/Celceta.

I think their gameplay both have a similar feel so you could start with either. I would say start with Celceta just because I think it's "worse" than Ys 9 and personally I don't like going from a game I enjoy a lot to a game I enjoy less.

I just finished Ys IX last night on the hard difficulty and also my first time playing the game and I must say I agree with this review I really enjoyed it a lot didn't think the gameplay would be that fast for an RPG, because its usually just hack and slash or turn based and this game here alone made me feel like my controller was on fire with all the dodging lolol

Ys IX is easily the most divisive game in the series. Some people love, others thinks is a major step back from Ys VIII

Huh, that's interesting. I'm curious what they consider to be a step back. I feel like all the gameplay systems are on par or better than Ys 8. Maybe the story/characters are lacking?

@@JRPGFanatic people are just too biased and overpraised Ys 8 too much. Ys Origin, Felghana and Ys 9 are better than 8 imo.

@@JRPGFanatic Filling Nox meter felt artificial, very... gamey, in comparison to heavy rocks and destroyed bridges that required a certain number of people to unlock a new path. In VIII it had similar satisfaction to collectathons, while in IX it felt that side quests aren't side at all. Progression locks in VIII simply felt more natural. I love the game anyway.

@@Gnidel That's fair. The progression flow in 8 did make a lot more sense (I guess it helps it's much more realistic too) in terms of the story than the progression in 9. Definitely motivated me to look for everyone and revisit places to find more of the island to explore.
