Currently making 6 figures doing this job, I dint learned it in the Air Force, I did it as a trainee now I’m certified in all 5 basic methods of NDT and did not have to pay for college which is great, I encourage all the young bucks to get in it, is a great time to be a NDT Inspector.

I love NDI. Amazing career. Eddy current, ultrasonic, fluorescent penetrant, joint oil analysis program, x-ray, magnetic particle inspection, good times. We did have to deal with alot of bs tho. It's an important job and if you f up someone dies, no pressure. About that x-ray, if you see an NDI tech running in the opposite direction you should probably start running too.

What type of bs did you go through with this career field?
@ramirezt.649
@ramirezt.649 Жыл бұрын
@@wonderz_808 due to being in aircraft maintenance, there can be a lot of bs. one example is being a late shift and you are called out to an aircraft job close to the time you are normally let out of work. Can't leave work now. Another is having 100 bolts to inspect for cracks using the magnetic particle unit and sweating the whole time. Then just regular military bs, having to listen to orders from a lazy manager who sits at a desk all day who is a few ranks higher than you.

NDI career field is the best kept secret in Mx!! I did 21+ years doing NDI from ANG to AD. During my time in, it seems that there were always a SRB (Selective Reenlistment Bonus) available. In addition, when you leave the Air Force, there is an abundance of job opportunities on the outside and pays very well dependent on what methods you get certified in and of course location. Very good video, it sure beat the AFSC book I read at the Recruiters office.....Hangar Clear....X-Raaaaaay Ooon!!

There are tons of NDI jobs out here in the civilian world it just all depends on how much effort you put into looking for example; you can do NDI on Aerospace Aircraft, Oil Field, and Structural/Industrial Fabrication Metal. Here in the civilian world you can call "NDI" - NDT and NDE it's all the same thing just different terminology.

I’ve worked in NDE for the last 6.5 years as a level II in VT, MT, PT, UTT, CRT, and PMI. Speaking to my recruiter now but he’s telling me NDI isn’t open and is trying to hustle me into going into something else. So I’m going to speak to a different AF recruiter. It’s a fun field, if you’ve never done it, study study study so when you do the general, specific and practical for your level 2s, you’re set. It’s confusing and may seem difficult at first but it’s not once you become familiar with the processes and learn the code/procedure for each method. And you can make bank working for some companies. Phased Array I was working towards my level 2 hours in, it’ll eventually replace X-Ray one day. That’s the big ticket method to get your level 2 in. The company I worked for paid our level 2 PAUT guys $55/hour.

He's right about that, NDI has stand by = means you're on call if saber1 (maintenance super) calls you in for a job. It can be quick or very long, depends on the inspection. We have a schedule that rotates everyone in the NDI shop. I inspected numerous aircrafts f-15's, c-135's, c-130's, navy jets, hh-60's, etc. during my time on Kadena AFB. It's a very important job. You have to be confident in your inspections and decision making. Don't mess up or that could be someone's life, you know what I mean. It's a amazing career.
