The best part about coating your frame in beeswax is that when you're bike packing through the woods, and bears are chasing you, you'll make really good time.

Heat rings are the safest to slow cooling and prevent soldered joins becoming brittle .

You will need to Recoat it. This is how woodworkers treat their saw tables. The good part of this, is a bit of emery cloth will clean the service up for another coat.
@pineapplej73107 ай бұрын
the type of emery cloth he typically has on hand would destroy the finish he has on this bike. Youd have to use something like 1500/2000 grit wet

Interesting. I am interested to see how it holds up over time after one coat. The scientist in me would have tested it on a scrap piece before applying it to the whole bike. But I like how you jumped right into it. Great update. Now for a ride in the rain!

The beeswax finish is very cool. I'll be so interested to see how it holds up for you. I waxed the chains on 3 of my bikes (using Silca wax, not beeswax), and so far it's working great.

i’m very impressed with your skill brother…seems like you know more than what you let on….if that natural finish holds up with just beeswax i’ll be even more pleasantly surprised… can’t wait to see what else you do … if it’s anything like your other bike, i will assume now that it is probably one that i might have over all others… salute!

Interesting - I know there are some people that like to use a mix of oil/beeswax to season cast iron cookware too, but I haven't tried it. Looking forward to seeing how long this lasts. Seems like you would have to reapply it every year or so (like you do when you use beeswax to waterproof canvas bags or whatnot).
@amckimmey7 ай бұрын
That’s a really cool idea. I’m curious to know how the wax could be removed in the future to paint. I might have to run a test myself with this on some scrap metal I have around.

@christopherwilson98617 ай бұрын
I wonder what the results would be like if you just got the wax hot and painted it on a cold bike, then just went through and heated and rubbed the whole thing down at once.
@fid4207 ай бұрын
wonder if sweat is harder for the wax to handle compared to water.
@FelipeTadeu-ky5iy7 ай бұрын
if the wax doesn't work, you could use that bluing agent that gunsmiths use, that bike would look amazing in that gun metal blje
@fleurdelispens7 ай бұрын
rust bluing rubs off pretty easy, and other bluing methods rub off even easier. It's fine for a gun that spends most of its time indoors, but for a bike that gets a lot of wear and tear, it's just not durable enough. I do love the look of a rust blue, but if you want that look, you're better off painting.

Those patina shop truck bros use boiled linseed oil over their bare metal spots. I think you will find the beeswax coming off in warmer weather and/or picking up road debris.
