You need a grass rake on the front to lay the lily's down so they dont fold over the front of the boat and stop you. I've grown up.with air boats all my life and I've owned several and a 1976 500 caddy is bullet proof. I've ran those for years. Hard to find these days

Wouldn't a belt drive to the prop with the motor sitting lower in the boat be a better design? Also, are there airboat props that can handle more than 3000 ripums? I have no idea. Zero airboat experience.
@Mad.Man.Marine
@Mad.Man.Marine Жыл бұрын
@@jb-uw2vt the 3000 rpm is for exactly that. A reduction drive on that would be great. Get the motor rpm up in the 4500 range and keep the prop tip speed down where it needs to be.
@Bradofmaccly
@Bradofmaccly Жыл бұрын
They do make a long belt system that sits the motor down low but believe it or not they make the boats handle worse. The weight up top lets and helps the boat lean in turns and it needs that to keep the sides from biting. A biting side can cause a roll over.

Biologist from North NJ here. We drove to FL to buy an air boat with the same motor! A Lake management company up here would pay top dollar for this. And yes the air boats don’t hurt the lilies! We also treated invasive plant species in lakes with these. Lotta fun can take these anywhere. My only tip would be to move the seat back a little and higher to avoid bow spray.

Buddy I found your channel a couple weeks back based on a suggestion. I've been laid up with a broken foot for days and all I do is binge watch you and a couple gardening channels. I'm hooked! Since I can't get out the house and mess with either fourwheeler project, my boat project, wrapping up my pole barn or finishing rebuilding the front end of my daughter's GMT400 Tahoe, I get to live vicariously through your content. Keep it up Chieftain. You're helping to save a working man from depression caused by being idle.

Hey Chris - Just wanted to let ya know that your videos give me the kick in the ass to get out and get my projects done. It's been hard to work up the motivation to do stuff because of the state of the world. This spring I wrapped up my automotive apprenticeship to become a journeyman but the camping season started off with my relatively new trailer having a roof leak that had turned into a mess. However seeing what you guys did with the Clapper gives me the motivation and confidence to say everything is gonna be ok with it, even if it's really frustrating. Thanks for everything you do, and I'm really happy to see the Air Boat alive!! Looking forward to the next video!

Subscribed as soon as your wife said, " ...well...how much beer do we have?" Lol Shes a keeper! You should invest in a reduction box to put on the back of the motor. Get the motor RPMs up but the prop stays below 3000. Loved the videos. 🍻

Love the channel! Years back I raced in the mud with a Chevy Blazer, I swapped to a Caddy 500, 76 model. Drop on some old 472 cylinder heads the cc chambers are way smaller. Bumps up compression a lot! I then installed an Edkebrock performer intake and Sanderson headers! OMG this combo ran sooo good! Mountains of torque! Not a big RPM engine but ran great! I have one unused shorty Caddy header if you want it I’ll donate it to your project! Also swapping intakes and the exhaust manifolds will drop ALOT of weight! The drone shots are awesome!

For powered boats less than 39.4 feet, or 12 meters, you need to have the following set of navigation lights. One all-around white light that you can see from 360 degrees and from two miles away; And one pair of red and green sidelights that are visible at 112.5 degrees and from one mile away. Get your VSC inspection and they will be very helpful, they just updated the fire extinguisher regs and you'll probably need a USCG-approved backfire flame arrestor on your carb. Easier and safer to comply than to get boarded an ticketed. Most local Sheriff's Dept with a Marine Division should also be able to advise/inspect. I enjoy your channel. Stay safe!

Goldie runs so good. I'd bet that engine, with proper maintenance, will run for years. Probably (late) 70's vintage. Those GM Big Blocks were built to last. You got all the garbage out so if it lasts a month, it may last over a year. The thrust pressure on the crank "issue" is something to consider. The engine already paid for itself. That runs so good. Oh, redundant. 🥰😃
