This 1988 Ford wrecker tow truck has been neglected for many years. I took the owners word that it "ran when parked" and rolled the dice paying $2000 to buy it. Let's see if we can get it running/driving again.

Chris you are a competent mechanic to be sure, but what separates your videos is that you are an awesome content creator and editor. The right camera or drone shot in the right place, the right speed to catch things up. Even when you say it is all over the place with the video content, it is very entertaining to watch. This was an hour video that felt like 15mins. Continued success to you and Jen.

If you ever have trouble getting it to go into gear those trucks have a terrible pedal set up for the clutch. There’s a small plastic bushing where the clutch pedal meets idler shaft lever rod that wears out and the clutch pedal won’t push in far enough. Sometime you’ll notice your having to push the clutch pedal through the floor, that usually means it’s time. They make a delete kit but I always keep some extra bushings in the glove compartments of my plow trucks. You may already know this but I just figured I’d say something.
@prevost8686
@prevost8686 21 күн бұрын
They also had issues with the firewall flexing when the clutch pedal was depressed. Ford issued a bulletin about reinforcing it to stop the flexing. I had an 88 and had to replace the bushings and reinforce the firewall. The clutch hydraulics were pretty Mickey Mouse too.

@@tonyortiz2192 I was a Ford Technician back in those days and Ford’s built quality was absolutely horrendous. They , along with GM were pumping out some 5-star garbage back then. I am happy to see you are restoring the old Mustang, there is not enough of those left. They were an absolute fine car I had one that I wanted to restore but I had to sell it. It was drive able and didn’t have much to do to it to make it like new. I drove it a lot but the early 80’s were rough and I ended up selling it, in 86. I bought it in 1980 and it was in great shape I kept it in great shape also, but could not afford to keep 2 vehicles on the road, and had to park it. Because I needed my truck to make a living. Rough times then.

I can appreciate that caliper fix because one time when I was young and broke, I couldn’t hardly afford the big price for a new dual piston caliper for my truck and I did that same thing. I took it apart and buffed and greased the pistons and put it back together, and I actually drove it that way for a few years with no issues until the piston literally crumbled apart from rust lol. I don’t love fixing things that way, but sometimes it’s what ya gotta do and there’s nothin wrong with it on an old truck like that.

It’s a good truck. Find it funny how it says abandoned vehicle removal on the door. I have a 1993 7.3 idi turbo crew cab dually sitting outside my barn right now. Gotta pull the bed to inspect the fuel system. It’s having issues keeping fuel in it and it makes sense to check the lines and fix the messed up bed in the process. I swapped in the engine after the na idi died, it is in very good shape being a Texas truck with 210 thousand miles on it. I’m working on a 1954 ford naa tractor that has a front end loader that I look forward to using to pull the bed.
