Thanks for checking out some of the older Japanese trains in service! 1:26 There are no baby shinkansen services in Kyushu. Maybe you're thinking of the Shinkansen relay expresses towards Nagasaki? 3:18 The seats being higher up is the whole selling point of this train; it's done on purpose. 4:09 Hakata to Yufuin is 138.4km by the route the Yufuin no Mori takes. Glad you enjoyed the train!!

JR passes are the best and Japanese trains are stunning. i was in Japan in 2019 and bopped around Western Japan on a 7-day Regional Railpass (Sanyo-San'in) pass that allowed me to check out Osaka, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Fukuoka (Hakata), Kyoto, Nara and Okayama. it is simply stunning wherever you go and the rail system is extremely efficient and organized. the wood paneling in this train is indeed exceptional. this video makes me long for another jaunt in the land of the rising sun - thanks!

Does the JR pass include the Shinkansen high speed trains as well
@JBS31910 ай бұрын
The JR Pass used to be incredible value for money for almost every trip to Japan. However, the prices increased by a whopping 70% in October, so for many trips, regional passes are better, and on many trips, it may be less expensive to purchase tickets individually.
@_autom10 ай бұрын
Regional passes are much more economical, true - if planning to visit specific places within a region or maybe a combination of regional passes and one-off single tickets depending on your itinerary@@JBS319

I've lived in Nagasaki for five years, and the mountains would always get my attention whenever I travelled around Kyushu by train. The Yufuin no Mori is one of several storytelling trains in Kyushu, and while the island is out of the way compared to the major cities in Honshu, these trains are a really good way to appreciate the Japanese countryside. The best part is that these storytelling trains are not fast, which means you can really take in the sights. I've also been on the "Kawasemi Yamasemi", "Aso Boy", and the "A-Train", and they all have their charms. Yufu's also a great place to be. It's usually cloudy most of the time, but I was fortunate enough to enjoy a clear day during a long weekend trip, during which I could see Mt Yufudake in its entirety.

Happy to see you in Japan again. Speaking of great value, I find that any train in Japan outside of the Shinkansen is amazing value for money. While Europeans may find intercity/regional trains slow (none of them runs faster than 150 kph), I think it is a good pace to enjoy the wonderful scenery Edit: Oh, it was in 2022. Nevertheless, still happy to see you have some more videos to show 😊

As a half Japanese, I'm thrilled to see more content about Japan from you. Many of the stations and trains in Japan that I've been to are very busy and also quite convenient, and I'm really amazed by just how developed they are with train transportation when everyone else thought cars and planes were gonna supersede. I've been watching ever since my first ever solo trips last year and I've been really happy to see you cover all these cool train rides. I must say you have created a gem for my later solo trips. :)

I rode the Yufuin No Mori in 07 and it was wonderful. I took it from Hakata to Oita on the east coast of Kyushu. Does it still go that far? I returned to Hakata via Kokura station in Kitakyushu taking the class 885 Sonic and the 100 Kodama Shinkansen. The Sonic had a translucent partition behind the cab that turned clear when it started moving. Japanese Limited Express trains are great because you really get to see the scenery and have a huge variety of colors and designs. As you said, they're available all over Japan and essential for anyone who wants the full Japan rail experience. I rode 15 of them on that trip, making the most of my JR pass.

When I first travelled around japan on the japan rail pass I went on the Shinkansen as much as possible, but then I realised that most of the new lines are in tunnels and you don't see anything. So now I take much slower trains and stay in one region, enjoying the journey itself instead of the novelty of travelling on a train at over 300km/h (but mostly in a tunnel).

It's definitely worth slowing down and seeing some of the views!

The train itself is amazing but the ride is extremely uncomfortable and Yufuin itself is very overrated. In fairness, our visit was ruined by rain and wind, next to no restaurants open and those that were had excessive wait times. Might be more enjoyable in summer but even more busy.
