George was my hero as a little kid. I was a kicker and even wore #16 in peewee through junior high football. I was in high school when he pulled off his 5-week-in-a-row miracle.

I remember watching Blanda's heroics back in 1970. It seemed like every week George was leading the Raiders to victory after they had been trailing. I was also lucky enough to see live Gordie Howe in his last season when he came and played against Boston when he was 52.

I remember watching Blanda on the Raiders, the games would show in Texas would be the late afternoon games, and he was inspirational. A QB and the kicker !
@kennethcaine34023 жыл бұрын
I remember watching him play and he played GREAT regardless of his age he has always one of the best players I have ever seen. I think Brett Farve took the record of most intersections from him, but Brett Farve was a Super star and was not afraid to throw into triple coverage, if he was intercepted he relied on his Defense to put the ball in his hand. When George Blanda retired he was still fit and he was the best player I have ever seen.
@catanito76893 жыл бұрын
Was the kicker and QB at the same time...won games by himself. Smoked a cigarette and when the offense took the field he would throw a TD and kick the extra points. His 2 min 4th quarter drive to win the game by a Field goal was determined by him cause he knew how long he could kick the FG.

As a young boy and being able to watch the Broncos-Raiders games, even being a die hard Bronco fan, I loved watching him come into a game with all the chips down and lead the Raiders to a win. I often wondered what he told the kids in the huddle (some being young enough to be a grandkid)! Was it, “anyone lets anyone from the other team touch me, you will get a good old spanking”? I love George Blanda!

I just read an article about Tom Brady making a comeback in a few years and they mentioned George Blanda but said he did not start a single game in his last 7 years but made no mention that he was also a kicker, which of course he was mainly used as in those 7 years. One of the last of the straight on kickers I suppose and a great one. Now they rarely have straight on kicking even at the high school level.

Brady will play this season at the age of 44. He'd have to play another one at 45, 46, 47, 48 to tie, and 49 to beat him. No way is that gonna happen. Blanda could kick. That's why he was able to stick around so long.
