Wow, so nice to see my design project as a fly through! I designed this in 2002-2003. The entire upper floor was renovated, including decks, skylight, kitchen and bath. I didn't touch the lower bedrooms, as these had been done previously by another designer. It was fun working with the owners. The Flamed Black Absolute granite tiles were used with a Soft Mitered edge, to speak to the basalt in the concrete wall. Green Limestone counters were used in the Kitchen. Even though limestone will 'patina' over time, the owners were instructed how to maintain and clean them. Maple floors were used for the flooring with a Water based sealer, so it wouldn't Yellow over time. The ceiling was actually the roof, so I had to be creative and design in some soffits to conceal and house the light fixtures and conduit. I selected a wood tambour for the ceiling, edges with wood trim. This was to create a texture that spoke to the traditional Hawaiian textured ceilings, but in a more clean, modern and architectural language. The tambour was white washed and sealed. While working with Peter Vincent & Associates at the time, Michael Subiago was very good to work with, and we coordinated on the tiny details. If the new owner would like, I had ideas for the lower level, and would love to create a healing environment down there.

Thanks for sharing. I love the house and it was a pleasure capturing it on video and photos. My favourite part was also the rock wall in the walkway between the entrance going to the living spaces.

This looks like it's high enough up to be out of the Tsunami zone too!
