While little is known about the author, this poem which he wrote around about the 5th century has emerged as one of the most powerful, beautiful and well-celebrated works throughout time. It's a piece that scholars from all areas of the Muslim World are familiar with, and parts of it are taught to students as part of their Islamic studies to this day. The poem itself has almost 700 lines (well over 6,000 words) covering many aspects of Islam: Qur'an, 'Aqidah, hadith, fiqh, history, seerah etc. It also goes into clarifying much of the theological and social problems that arose in the Ummah during that time (e.g. the view of the Mu'tazilah as well as issues brought by other heretical groups) and it continuously gives beautiful advice on how the Muslim should live - e.g. how to deal with your brothers, how to perfect your character, how to achieve in life etc.
Please note that while I've tried my best to capture the essence and meaning of the original text as accurately as possible, it's important to acknowledge that Arabic is a language rich in nuance and depth. As such, some words and phrases may not have direct equivalents in English, and nuances may vary in translation. I hope you learn from the poem, and I welcome any feedback or insights you may have.

I would like to mention for anyone confused on 4:45 that the Imam Al Qahtani is not infallible and he will make mistakes, the scholars have said that the verses which talk about the earth being like a carpet means it is a carpet to the human eye, so while the earth itself is round, the human eye sees the ground as flat, this is also the case with the ayat about the sun setting into a muddy spring, as the sun does not actually set into a muddy spring, but rather appears like that to one who is seeing it, In the Quran it says that Allah wraps the night around the day and the day around the night, which proves that the earth is round, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Tayyimah has talked about the earth being round in his book Majmoo' Al Fataawa, and Allah knows best.

I think this poem is a gem because it also shows us what current discussions that was going on between the Sunnis and the Philosophers. Interestingly enough, some of these positions which Qahtani critisced can easily be reconciled together, like the issue of thunder or flat earth. Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “As regards thunder and lightning, then the hadeeth reported by At-Tirmithi and others reads that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) was asked about thunder and replied, 'Thunder is one of the angels of Allah who is entrusted with the clouds. He has entwined shreds of fire with which he drives the clouds wherever Allah wills.' In Makaarim Al-Akhlaaq by Al-Kharaa’iti, it is narrated that ‘Ali was asked about thunder and replied, 'It is an angel;' and he was asked about lightning and said, 'It is entwined fire in the hands of the angels.'” Another narration reads, “It is entwined iron in the hands of the angel.” Other narrations were also reported in this regard. Statements from some scholars of the Salaf (righteous predecessors) that do not contradict the above ones were also reported, such as the statement: “It is a movement of celestial clouds due to air compression in the cloud. However, this does not contradict that (the metaphysical explanation), … the angels move the clouds from one place to another. Indeed, every movement in the upper and lower World results from the action of the angels. The voice of a person results from the movement of his body parts, which are his lips, his tongue, his teeth, his epiglottis, and his throat; he, however, along with that, is said to be praising his Lord, enjoining good, and forbidding evil.” [End of quote] ----- Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about two men who disputed about the nature of heaven and earth: were they both round bodies? One of them said that they were, but the other denied that and said there is no basis for that. What is the correct view? He replied: The heavens are round, according to the Muslim scholars. More than one of the scholars and Muslim leaders narrated that the Muslims are unanimously agreed on that, such as Abu’l-Husayn Ahmad ibn Ja‘far ibn al-Munaadi, one of the leading figures among the second level of the companions of Imam Ahmad, who wrote approximately four hundred books. Consensus on this point was also narrated by Imam Abu Muhammad ibn Hazm and Abu’l-Faraj ibn al-Jawzi. The scholars narrated that with well-known chains of narration (isnaads) from the Sahaabah and Taabi‘een, and they quoted that from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. They discussed that in detail with orally-transmitted evidence. There is also mathematical evidence to that effect, and I do not know of anyone among the well-known Muslim scholars who denied that, apart from a few of those who engaged in arguments who, when they debated with the astrologers denied it for the sake of argument and said: It may be square or hexagonal and so on. They did not deny that it could be round, but they said that the opposite of that was possible. I do not know of anyone who said that it is not round - with any certainty - apart from some ignorant people to whom no one pays any attention. End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (6/586) Ibn Hazm said in Al-Fasl: None of the Imams, who deserve to be called Imams, denied the roundness of the earth.
