I have one of those lathes, best upgrade I made was to fit a 3 phase motor, inverter and variable speed control, no need to mess about with belts & pulleys, you can get any drilling speed you want. Also changed the tool post and added a tacho.

If anything you'd have it down on the right side. As you're looking down your peripheral vision would be more likely to see oncoming traffic. I bet these brackets that are for sale are on the left hand side because they drive on the wrong side on America.

50 years ago I had a trials bike with the speedometer attached to the front engine mounting and even then it was an inconvenience on a slow and light bike that was never ridden in traffic. This is just another example of Dangerous Del's shenanigans

@@the.just.able.biker67 Probably, funny was talking to a mate who lives in rural Illinois a bit back, He was saying where he is there aren't really static speed cameras and on the freeway, basically you have to be proper taking the piss to get pulled over. Also pretty sure in a lot of states, a speeding fine is like a parking fine over here, you hand over the money and that's the end of it. Totally different culture...
@JAMESWUERTELE

@@Ryan.90depends. Most states you either gain or lose points on your license. The key is to not draw attention to yourself. No loud exhausts, no bright colors, stay out of groups. I live in CO, and they are not very nice to sport bikes speeding. I have taken my own advice and I have a matte black Honda 1000RR, stock exhaust, and keep to myself.

He’s gone on about not buying a speedo mount and saving money by making one, but he already had clip ons that he made collars for, and he actually put them on the bike, and then he spent a shit load on some more that don’t look or perform any different. I can’t afford to save money somewhere just to spend more than I have to elsewhere. I have to save it everywhere.

if I was really pedantic, and I am, I would point out that dangerous del doesn't use the master pinion when tightening and loosening the 3 jaw chuck, as indicated by the red roundel on the face of the chuck. the master pinion is also identified by a 0 stamped into the outer diameter of the chuck, using the master pinion to tighten the jaws reduces eccentricity of the workpiece considerably.

One difference between counterboring with endmill and proper counterbore is you get a flat bottom with a counterbore. An endmill has a small relief angle towards center so it leaves a "convex" kone, most of the time this fine, for example if it's just for a bolt head. But in some applications you might need a flat bottom.

I've recently machined out 90mm nylon for a Smiths speedo, that stuff is a nob to machine, I'd love to see del work with that stuff. Best thing I've bought for the lathe was indexable carbide tools, so much easier to work with. It's really hard to change speed on those Clarke lathes, the lever can be really difficult to move unlike the Myford where you simply have to move the belt... And would it not be a 3/8" socket on a Harley???

When you paused on the lathe (explaining cutting fluid) there's bronze looking strips under the tool, my question is, is that normal or would it being presumably a soft material make an otherwise precision tool a bit less precise?
@nauroticdax
@nauroticdax 2 жыл бұрын
They are shims used to adjust the tool height so you are cutting on centre (typically there is a bit more to it than that but that's getting into rake angle and different materials) generally speaking brass is fine for tool shims because it's all under compression when you tighten the tool down, the tooling itself and the lathe not being bolted to something sturdy and leveled are way bigger concerns than using brass for shims.

It seems only the ignorant (of engineering principles) actually watch his vids and comment afterwards,and to them anything they don't know elevates Del in their eyes. The old thing about 'In the land of the blind the eyed man is king' syndrome. I certainly don't claim to know it all but after a lifetime in precision engineering a lot of the things he does make me cringe,it's not only the half a*sed way he goes about things but I can see an accident ahead if he carries on. Hopefully he'll listen to someone before it happens as I wouldn't like to see him blinded or maimed by his lack of knowledge,certainly an exploding abrasive wheel or disc is not a pretty sight.

But where he falls short IMO is teaching his bad ways, some of which are potentially hazardous. He has had no formal training gets out of bed one day and decides I'm going to be a mechanical lecturer. He is a charlaton or a modern day snake oil salesman. He was actually as proud as a peacock with that bracket so much so you would think he had reinvented the wheel. A blind cobbler could of done a better job.
