I don't understand in this day and age why there isn't more memory included. £3,000 and only 2GB included? You shouldn't have to choose which pianos you want to download onto the instrument; you should have access to them all. A good quality Solid State Drive is how much? It really should be in there...

Samples on Nord keyboards are not stored on SSD as on Kronos. If they were they would not be available immediately on program change and even with SSD would require certain time to load. Therefore comparing Nord Stage hardware architecture price with SSD price is not fair.

Nord is so far ahead in the sound game. I had a Nord Piano and Nord Piano 2 and the sound is so organic. This new Nord Grand is next level. Will definitely have Nord Grand in my future. This has the Kawai RHIII action adapted from the MP7SE and ES8 which is a great action, but I can only imagine how good this thing would be with the even better Grand Feel Actions in the MP11SE and higher in console pianos.

I love the competition at the high end of stage pianos - Nord, Yamaha, Korg, Roland - great tools. The Nord Grand looks good, and sounds good also. Very tempting and worth every penny - Not very portable but I can imagine that it will sell loads especially to places where portability is not an issue. I can imagine lots of studios buying one - just to have this in their control room in a similar manner to having some basic instruments around like a real acoustic or electric piano. I also see this doing well in the rental market as an instrument that many gigging musicians would include in their riders...(especially on any occasion where they are no t directly responsible for lugging it around). Also would be wonderful for churches who have a secure place for musical instruments. Good job Nord. IMHO the instruments are no longer a limitation, the real question now is - can you play them well enough to reveal their true potential.

As far as 88 keys go, at 20kgs it is as portable as ANY of them...and much lighter than my RD-700NX. I don't really see any reason why this would be better for a studio or a church basement than for gigging out...although I agree it will be a welcome sight in studios AND at festival stages!

However, I have never been convinced by the velocity transitions as they sound quite jumpy compared to other manufacturers. Am I alone in that regard? I'm not even that sure how many layers are supported by the engine. All being said the addition of the Kawai action really will make a big difference.

Hey Jack, nice demo! I just wanted to ask you, since you know Nord representatives, would it be possible to ask Nord if they can come up with their piano 'hardware module'? (Something like the Dexibell VIVO SX7 Sound Module). One can have the desired "Nord sounds" loaded onto it and can enjoy those with modest midi controllers! (would be much better than running the VSTs on computers). Thanks a lot!
@vivingeorge8417
@vivingeorge8417 5 жыл бұрын
@Lewis AlexanderYes, but you know there is a market out there for these modules and Nord can come up with their own solution, which I feel would shift the interest of many Digital piano users. If one wants the sounds, having the customization of giving that alone is indeed an advantage. Of course, there is software on VST, but some would want to be spared the ordeal of grabbing a mouse during real-time playing, only to see the screen saver turned on!

Question: I have the Kawai MP11 (not the newer MP11se, and I do not know if it has the same keyboard. All i know is that is a remarkable feeling and sounding piano, BUT, the ONE thing it cannot do, is it cannot do rapid single note repetition/trills. It simply doesn't sense or return quickly enough. I have been searching for another controller/piano that WILL give me that along with all the other "real Grand Piano feels"... I have played the Roland RD2000, and it doesn't do it either. Is there an answer out there? the Nord Grand? Do the sensors Nord use give a faster response on single note trills? I used to own a Piano 2 and a Stage (the original), but neither of those would do it either...

@@delanobersan7344 well, revisiting this, I ended up buying a Kawai NV10, and woo boy, does it have an action. It is the closest thing to a grand that I have found, because...it actually USES a nearly complete grand piano action for real on each key. It's not "simulated". It is fantastic. Doesn't make for a great stage piano, but, it gives me the action I want in a relatively small footprint. The sounds are a little "meh", but the sound system onboard is believeably realistic and loud. AND, being able to play my own samples to get better piano sounds is always a possibility due to the USB connection, so it makes a great "controller" as well.

I liked the design, which let the player put another keyboard top of it without a second tier. All we know is the 2 tired keyboard stands suck. My suggestion to Nord is, make a quick select tool like 10 keys in my Roland xp60. I dont think that any professional kb player makes their settings live, we spend time to create patches. Mostly after i made my patches, i basically just recall them on the stage. Most of the time, not enough time to wait, I should be able ready to next song with just a simple click, thats why you should make a quick patch changing system. Also, when we make a new layer, with home speaker system, 99 percent of time, we need to edit for the stage. If you want to be easy accessible, let the user can be reach the EQ, Volume, Effect sends settings of each layer easily, or each functions of layer if possible because if your layer not fit the sound on live, you need quick access to fix it immediately, think about like a synth. Actually you may have these functions already, i didnt check the keyboard yet. thank you

The action (piano feel) of the Roland RD-2000 absolutely kills the Nord Grand. The RD-2000 has wood core, balanced keys, and 'escapement' action. NORD says there is escapement but there isn't. This feels nothing like a Steinway, Yamaha Studio Grand, etc... Kawaii high end keyed action is not on this model. This is a step down. And it's loud (the clunking of the hammers in the keyed. ).

@@adrianfundescu5407 Why would I joke about it? It's my honest opinion and conviction. I play the electro 6 on dozens of live gigs and throughout my last CD production and I have the White Grand, the Royal 3D and the 2012 Fazioli sample side by side and I keep switching back to the Italian under all circumstances. The quality difference is especially noticeable with headphones but also in different live setups. Nothing has beaten the Fazioli by now although I tried to reconsider several times by reloading the other ones but no Bösendorfer and no Steinway sample came close. Also I should note that I played the 3-m Fazioli in real life as well as many other world famous grands, however, I am a pop musician who plays by ear. I have no classical training or hearing let alone perfect pitch.

They're copying Kawai CP2/3 with this one. How I wish they did it with all the main features from Kawai (not only the looks). The CP2 has MP3/WAV playback and recording, mic input, balanced ouputs, wireless connection, 16 track MIDI recording, 256 polyphony, more than 1000 sounds, big LCD touchscreen, etc. Moving Nord to Kawai action (instead of Fatar) is wonderful, but they need much more to shine these days. And the White Grand sample is more than 200mb ... to big for today's Nord memory standards (in 2019!). Also, they should stop dividing the sample files into "sample" vs "piano", so we could freely assing, split, etc every time we need. With the current Nord Pianos that is simply not possible.

@@adrianfundescu5407 Not true. And today's musicians demand more flexibility. The times when a digital or stage piano only had a handful of sounds is over. That's why, for example, the Nord library is always evolving and adding new sounds, because musicians demand more.

The truth is... We’ve been slowly and surreptitiously seduced into accepting these glossy, produced, treated, effected sounds as what a piano should sound like Actually they don’t sound like an acoustic piano at all, despite all the comparisons as to what keyboard is the best and sounds like the real thing, they don’t. This Nord white piano sounds great, don’t get me wrong, and I’d happily use it on a recording But it’s not an acoustic piano Listen to his playing on the outro where he holds the notes...they fizz as the note decays just like every other digital piano I know You know what, on KZbin there is a blindfold test of a Nord, Roland, Yamaha, Korg and a Casio The Casio, while not having the gloss and over treated sound, actually sounds the closest to a real acoustic piano
@LiamBurrowsMusic
@LiamBurrowsMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I would say nord is the only brand that sounds like an acoustic. When you play a note staccato with no reverb you still hear the decay and woodyness of a piano. No other brand does this, not even keyscape.

Samples base crap. Most manufacturer know sample base technology is over and have move research to modelling. Roland is a about 20 years ahead of any of these. They give unlimited poly now... 16000 layer of velocity per key... and nord have the nerve to put out a 3000$ keyboard that still has couples samples per key and 128 layer of velocity. Utter crap. Get yourself a pure acoustic roland keyboard for that priceanddont look back.
@Colosphonium
@Colosphonium 5 жыл бұрын
@Scars Stiches any serious pianist realised that sampled latency..polyphony limitation and so on are a plague. A digital piano doesnt reaxt like a grand and is very forgiving. For the hobbyist sampled are fine. But for a kids that wanna become a concert pianist modelling is way better as it react in real time. The roland lx708 is the first digital piano that is not forgivibg at all... it play like a grand. If youfind the tonelifeless and cold you can tweak it. But again.. most hobby player use one pedal...and play badly enought that any sampled base software or keyboard will be satisfactory. Because they think the sound is the most important thing... If that is the case..get yourself garritan cfx.... it is as best as ut can get sinceits basicly the best piano of the world recorded trought the best gear at the best studio. The roland lx708 doesnt try to emulate a recording of a grand... it recreate the experienceof sitting in a room with a grand. And that can only be acomplished if the sound is CREATED following your input. Not from a pre recorded set of sound that is triggered when you push a key. Iv been playing all my life and compose for orchestra and here is my prediction give it 10 years and nobody gonna use samples anymore. Quantum computing will hive us the freedom to modelled anything we want even reality with his law of physic. So let alone a simple piano it will beperfect simulation
@Colosphonium
@Colosphonium 5 жыл бұрын
@Scars Stiches you should know that sampled based piano have a maximum of 128 layer of velocity per key... that isnt the number of pre recorded sampled except for the vienna imperial. Roland new tech has 16000 layer... that is significant. As for you saying your a serious pianist fine.. but where i study... not a single one would prepare himself on a sampled base piano no more. Secondly... it isnt also about the note you played...but also the other strings you dont it.... this cannot be recorded... these are modelled on all vst or piano. Why do you think that is ? Synpathetic resonanceand harnonic content cannot be sampled... that alone should tell you you are on a dead horse... I own a yamaha c7 grand. And play on it most of the time. And nothing come close until i heard the roland pure acoustic modelling. The way it decay naturally... etc. You may have a slight edge right now with the tone...but this isnt gonna last long. So enjoy. Cause modelling is taking over the world of digital piano. Hybrid piano are coming and the only placeyoull see real one are in co cert hall before 50 years.
@Colosphonium
@Colosphonium 5 жыл бұрын
@Scars Stiches you should not compare a modelling vst to roland pure acoustic engine also... i hate pianoteq... qich is milited to 128 layer of velocity also. Roland is 2 dedicated cpu...just doing that couple with a acoustic projection system... it literally have nothing to do with pianoteq or any vst for that matter.
