The thing is everything you can hear is the exact same sounds as anyone with a nord electro, piano, or stage can get by downloading the same sounds. So the only thing that makes this piano different is the action and that was really the only thing that needed to be talked about in the review otherwise its just hearing the sounds but we need to know how it feels!!
@alainthiry3965
@alainthiry3965 2 жыл бұрын
absolutely, sounding is not a game changer today, with vst and library you get exactly the sound you want, the keybed is the only criteria. and for the grand the kawai mp7 has almost the same feeling at mid price....

@@alainthiry3965 Just stopped by Sweetwater and tried every keyboard, including all the Nords, including the Nord Grand, and the latest Kawai, Yamaha, Dexibel and Studiologic keyboards with their best hammer action keybeds.... I've never been a big Nord fan... Always thought they were over priced... My verdict: Damnit.. The Nord Grand had the best true piano action hands down, and it wasn't really that close. Even better than the Kawai keyboards... I'm a little pissed because it looks like I'll need to set aside some more funds than I thought. lol All I can say is, one needs to sit down and play the Nord Grand before making any final judgements.

@@alainthiry3965 The primary thing that makes it stand out is the keyboard for sure. The thing is, the main White Grand piano sound actually sounds better on The Grand compared to the Piano 5, even though it's the same sound. The only reason that it seems to sound better because the keybed is more accurate and responsive on the Nord Grand. Having the sensors on the tip of the hammer mechanism compared to below the key adds a realism that pianist will quickly notice.

Honest review Jack but I love the action of a fully strung piano so something like this would work wonders for me in the studio or at home. My RD-800 is going nowhere but I do miss the real feel of a overstrung piano. What I would say is that even the RD 2000 and it's counterparts are a million miles better from offerings 10 years ago so we live in good times techwise.

So, Jack said he wasn't an AP player but is getting used to it. PianoMan Chuck loves the ES8/RHIII action and all he does is play the piano. Try an ES8 in your area to see if you like it and if you like it then move forward! Jack says that the keys are skinnier than the normal Nord/Fatar action. My Kawai MP11 keys are slightly skinnier too. It's not you Jack, it's the Kawai actions. Thanks for the great video!

I'm having the same dilemma. The triple pedal comes included which is an elegant bonus. Plus double the memory of the Piano 4 for the Nord Piano Library (2 gigs as opposed to 1). The specs highlight the keys on the Grand having an ivory touch (not highlighted as such for the Piano 4). As a solo performer, the cabinet appeals to me over the ordinary 'board' of the 4. Let's be honest I'n trying to talk myself into it. Cos I want a Grand, not a 4!!

Do you know if the KBD Touch was set to Heavy? That might be why you didn't get some notes to play. The medium setting may work better for your touch. If when I get mine (in a few days?), I will immediately report back on your comment that I am having the same issue. Mine will go back if it does. I have a very light touch so that will impact my ability to play the board.

I did receive my NG on Monday and my search for a digital piano is over. I have played the Yamaha NU1X and the N3; and being totally honest, I like the NG better than those two pianos ($8K and $15K). It's not about the cost. The action is great and I am feeling the same response compared to my Steinway A that I own. While slightly different from the Steinway in feel it is very close (56 gram downweight on middle C). After playing it now for maybe 20 hours I do "not" think about the action's feel anymore. It's a piano! And every piano is different. There are no silent notes that I have detected. The samples are great through Sennheiser 650s. But, they sound great through Sennheiser HD 598's too. And the ability to tweak the sounds realtime with every knob in front of you is timeless! I was not sure about the piano after taking it out of the box but then I started tweaking the EQ and reverb, by patch, and it came alive. Each pair of headphones I own sounds different through it. I removed all piano samples from the board (ouch!) and installed the largest samples for each grand piano from the Nord Sound Library. This allowed every sample to come alive. I now have seven great piano samples to play that sound like the real deal. Steinway B, Yamaha S4, Kawai SK7, Imperial Bosendorfer, Fazioli Grand, Yamaha C7, and Yamaha CS6. You must try playing one yourself with headphones at the store again. I am so happy with it! The action does feel slightly different from a real action because the keys are spring-loaded and you do feel a very slight resistance of the keys when pushing them down to the half-way point. Measuring the down weight, using my piano weights, was a little difficult to do because the springs of the keys would not allow the keys to make their full travel downwards while measuring. But, as I have written above you do not feel this. It does afford you the ability to play quick passages because the keys respond quickly upwards. If you do not "micro-manage" the action (as we all do) you very quickly forget about it and just play the piano! Now I can get back to practicing piano with it and quit wasting time on the internet looking for a great practice piano. I'm done! If for some reason I cannot play softly, as you asked, I will report back here immediately. I do enjoy playing very soft piano passages and never play hard. My hands cannot take the abuse.

Thx, Sean! For me: I deleted all the pianos (all!) then downloaded and installed only the largest sample grand pianos; "that I liked from their website", to get the best piano sounds. That left me with 279MB free. This week I will install a few uprights to fill it up. I may consider installing the Grand Lady D too but I think it sounds kind of boring online. The synth section is great too. The White Grand needs the least tweaking. All others do require tweaking to pull the best sounds out. But, tweaking on this board is a breeze. I deleted/over-wrote all factory presets. It was dangerous to do that (I did not back it up, duh!) but I want to understand each preset that I have. Good luck! PS: My wife plays too and she loves this board. She has better ears than I do. She gave me a high five (literally) two minutes into playing it! It's all there. YMMV. Talk with David Hall of Kraft Music. He gave me a deal right-up front since I mentioned I was a Sweetwater client.

This Nord Grand has a much better action than the Fatar on the Nord Stage. But it's not Kawai's best action. It's equivalent to the MP7SE which costs $1,500 and inferior to the much better action on the MP11SE which is $2,500. So you're spending a lot of extra money fo the Nord samples. For many players this will be worth the money, but it's not the ultimate stage piano. It's just the best Nord piano.

@@obriantomlinson2776 The Nord Grand is a fine choice, but it's expensive for what it is. If a Kawai MP11SE is too big and heavy, consider a much cheaper Kawai MP7SE. A Roland RD-2000, Yamaha CP88,' Korg Grandstage and Dexibell are also worth trying. Some software VST pianos are also excellent. You might find that a less expensive stage piano l(ike a Casio) plus a high-end VST like Keyscape is a combination that works well for you. Don't buy anything until you've played it yourself. @@obriantomlinson2776 I think that it sounds nearly as good as the Nord. Kawai samples their own pianos and their samples are excellent. Of course, Nord samples many different pianos like Steinways and Faziolis as well as Kawai, so you have more choices. That's why it's so much more expensive.

Be nice if they dialled down the RED! Too much with their speakers and way too nice to gig with!

I really really dislike the red color on this piano. If it would have been black, it would have looked so much better.

Better suggestion would be to advise them to produce cream white and gloss black versions along with this lovely red one since the red colour a kinda trademark for Nord... Cheers

It's kind of disappointing when there's far more talking than playing. Would like to hear more of the various instruments instead of someone yammering on.

jeez can you just NOT hit at least one key... piano sounds awful unfortunately.. same as kawai and all the others.. roland sounds kind of best, but action sucks and here action is probably great. so worth to buy to use for rhodes and vsts. its so ridiculous when i see pianist is not trying to play the note identically touched.. but the piano gives exact identical sample.. god.. thats so awful

If I was in the shop having the thing demonstrated for me I'd want a salesman without so much EGO, have to say. I'd have to leave. Trying to focus on the instrument, not the cheeky chappy 'yooooooh maan' bloke!! Especially as so many of us could be parting with several thousands of pounds. Needs someone less self-indulgent to show us. Just saying.
