I am pretty sure that someone got the graphic wrong @1:25 as 1,222 km does not convert to 0.75 miles. Excellent work chaps.
@geebsterswats
@geebsterswats 2 жыл бұрын
I think the editor probably used 1.222 in the calculator and didn't move the decimal. Also, @ 2:18, the diameter of the pipe in inches is listed as 0,045, which isn't wrong, but an answer you'd get if you entered 1.153 in the calculator. Don't know why they left the leading zero and comma there, and not @ 1:25. They did the same with the pipe wall thickness. Decimal in the wrong place on 2 out of the 3 measurements
@JimGobetz
@JimGobetz 2 жыл бұрын
The next graphic had a few errors as well. 1222m equals about .75 miles so only off by 3 orders of magnitude!
@pmgn8444
@pmgn8444 2 жыл бұрын
It might also be North America (US/Canada/Mexico) vs European nomenclature. 1,222 km in North America is shown as 1.222 km in Europe. Or the value of Pi is 3.1415 (North America) vs 3,1415 (Europe). This type of silly errors detract from otherwise good videos.

I don't know why they are shutting down their nuclear plants. They have something that works so well, why scrap it? It's possible to make minimal nuclear waste by making new power plants that can easily process the parts of the fuel that most plants cannot.

@@ernestbywater411 Yeah, I am not discouraging green energy. However, for proper electrical grid operation, you need base-load power. Only hydroelectric plants and nuclear plants can do that without polluting. People just got spooked because the soviets built a shitty reactor 40 years ago, even that only blew up because of improper training and maintenance. These days, we have power plants that maintain safety by themselves! With waste issues solved by advanced reactor technologies, and reliable safety systems, a nuclear plant is a wiser option than hydro in most countries. A nuclear power plant doesn't harm wildlife by blocking fish movements and flooding valleys!
@ernestbywater411
@ernestbywater411 2 жыл бұрын
@@briannem.6787 The saddest aspect of the current push for Green Energy is the methodology they're pushing for is completely wrong and it has a worse carbon footprint than the correct method would. It seems to me the push is the way it is due to corruption and payouts to the politicians because the proper approach wouldn't see them get the payouts from the big companies profiting from the current methods. Wind and solar power is brilliant when done on an individual residence of building basis and linked to the use of low voltage direct current usage within the residence or building. Vertical Axis Wind Turbines with solar panels and batteries have a much lower carbon footprint than the huge horizontal axis turbines and the steel towers for power grids. But if the governments supported individual residences going off of the grid the big power companies would lose the majority of their clients and profits, and the nations wouldn't have any blackouts or the like.

A huge fact is missing in this video: After Russia the biggest owner of natural gas reservoirs is Iran and even some studies assume Iran has more gas than Russia. There was a plan about 2 decades ago to build a pipeline from Iran to Europe to end the dependency on Russian gas but it was abandoned because of American sanctions.
@arthas640
@arthas640 2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the fact that Iran is extremely hostile towards the west and Russia controls many countries in the region and will do anything to keep anyone from bypass Russia or their satellite states since that weakens the 1 successful part of their economy and their single most powerful bargaining chip when it comes to international politics: European dependence in Russian fuel. American sanctions are just 1 part of the situation and the reason America got involved in the first place was due to Europeans desperately wanting Iranian fuel and the soviets trying to disrupt that trade. There are other countries the Arabian peninsula nations and Iraq that could supply fuel via pipelines but they face the same Russian/Iranian meddling trying to block those pipelines. That's why so many nations got involved in Syria: the eastern Mediterranean is controlled by only a couple countries but is a prime location for the pipeline so if you disrupt them you can hold up the whole pipeline

@SickPrid3
@SickPrid3 2 жыл бұрын
The new pipe is not as deep as the old one. The main concern is that big ships may damage it. Poland started building gas port before new pipe was even talked about. Then Russia and Germany decided to build this pipe which would block the biggest LNG ships from delivering to Polish port. The route of the pipe was forced to be changed. Now the main issue is political. Russia is transmitting gas through Poland and Ukraine but with this pipe they can have "accident" and shut the old one off while still using new one to deliver to Germany

So the sanctions, which were partially meant to prevent Europe from relying on Russia for its electricity, we’re withdrawn with the idea that after Europe is even more dependent on Russia, that more sanctions could be placed on later? Episode suggestion: the Little Big Inch Pipeline. A pipeline that stretches from Texas to the north east. Was built in less than 1 year during WWII to prevent u boats sinking American tankers n the Gulf of Mexico. The pipeline is still in use today. Also other infrastructure wonders would be appreciated.

Relying on someone else to provide leads to power over providing "said thing." However the days of self sufficiency are for the most part over (personally and nationally). Just be careful who holds something you or your country cannot live without.

I'm a designer but not the engineering type. I am an environmentalist in the sense waste not, want not. I'm also a business owner. Because I want commercial success, I oftentimes have to change my ideological ways for practicality while holding onto that motto, waste not, want not. My question is, isn't there an underwater tunnel being planned between the Baltics and Finland and didn't Denmark just complete a megaproject connecting it to Sweden? Why couldn't the underwater pipeline project and the underwater connection projects have been combined? For whatever reason, there seems to be more concern about the environmental impact of the pipeline than the underwater passages. By building the pipeline into the tunnels of the underwater passages would mean that the operators could earn revenue and the pipeline owner would have easy access to the pipeline to conduct maintenance and do inspections. The public benefits also because if there was ever a leak, it would occur inside of the tunnel and not into nature. I believe part of my job as a designer is to find solutions and close gaps. That's my rant.

I’ve wondered why several projects across the planet haven’t been combined, my thoughts are it has to do corruption/tax dollars being allotted for “different” projects plus the massive timeline for planning and material gathering in limited time and space contraints, coordinating would be more efficient overall but would drag out the timeline for completed one single larger project. Back to the corruption side of things, in the US you can have an asphalt driveway privately paved for $10/sq ft whereas the government pays $40/sq ft for the same work, same asphalt….you see, if I’m a legislator and have vested interest into a government contractor or have backers with a vested interest I’m going to push for larger budgets for the same work even if that costs the taxpayers more. There’s a reason The Constitution is laid out the way it is, people are inherently evil and need to be checked back from time to time, hence the Bill of Rights.

Wait. What's so weird about Thanksgiving? Seems like a standard harvest festival type holiday to me.
@arthas640
@arthas640 2 жыл бұрын
It is. Thanksgiving was literally already a harvest festival who's date got moved back a bit and standardized as a way of commemorating the native americans saving the pilgrims/settlers. It only got weird in the last few decades when people started attaching events that came centuries later and happened hundreds of miles away to completely different cultures like the Trail of Tears or events that happened much earlier like the mass death of natives when europeans first came and their diseases killed 90% of north america. Now thanksgiving has become sort of a "white guilt holiday" as people use Thanksgiving as a day to bring up modern native American-European american relations and crimes against natives both inside and outside of the US across the last 500+ years. There are also some fringe groups in north america who have a reactionary view and use the holiday as a symbol of how SJWs are taking political correctness to a dangerous degree and are trying to erase american history and values. Everyone is quickly ignoring the fact it's a very basic harvest festival holiday and cultures across the globe have the exact same sort of holiday that happen in late August to early november or even earlier depending on climate and nornal harvesting season
