A first camp in my used Nordisk Telemark 2 LW. Picked up for just £210 in mint condition. So, how was it?
If you want to support the channel, please drop the video a like and subscribe, it really helps.
If you want to say thanks for any of my content you can always buy me a coffee - I don't actually drink coffee so any money received would be spent on used camping gear and the odd can of own-brand energy drink.

Yeah, I'm lucky to have a nice place to camp locally and the hill itself offers a few different pitches and different views. A good place to try some random tents!

These are very very light! I remember researching them a few years ago but concluded that condensation was proving too problematic for owners. I'm sure it's just a case of using it in the conditions that suit it best, and it'll do a good job of keeping your pack weight down on those occasions 👍 James.

Yes, luckily here in the UK, especially the Welsh Valleys, rain and moisture is rarely an issue. So I'll be using this most of the year round in the dry and arid conditions that we just take for granted living here. 🤔

Great bargain! It’s a decent lightweight tent but has a fairly major flaw……….i found that when condensation forms on the inside of the flysheet, a decent gust of wind can then cause the large roof panel to stick to the inner and transfer moisture inside the tent.
@TheWalkingKev
@TheWalkingKev 3 ай бұрын
Yes, the large back panel was pushed against the inner by a breeze, no water transferred in, but a bit of condensation formed above my head. I'll have to try and get the pitch better...

Nice to see you again Kev, cider & eats for a change, well done that man. You looked pretty comfy there, definitely only for one person but pitch better next time. Expensive for you, I'm surprised you bought it but cheeky bids sometimes win the race when you least expect!

I didn't think I'd win it. Definitely more than I usually pay but it's a serious bit of kit. I'm back out again tonight in my little orange Vango. Actually boiled water on this camp!

I’m a small female and have the 1 person version of this tent. Headroom isn’t brilliant and condensation is a given but the fact is I sleep like a baby in it - better than in my other two backpacking tents! I carry a small microfibre cloth to give the condensation a wipe in the mornings, you can huff and puff about it but the reality is it takes two minutes to do while your coffee’s on the go. Yes - tighten the four end guys before turning in at night and I hope I can reassure you that certainly my little Nordisk Telemark 1 LW has survived some real downpours in the Lakes and Peak district without any leaks and no I haven’t seam sealed mine. Yet! I hope you enjoy your top quality little tent as much as I’m enjoying mine. Thanks for the video, I love the dark green outer and cheerful yellow inner of the tent😬🤗🙂👍🏻

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really like my Nordisk tents, I've got the Svalbard 1 SI as well. They're very cosy and warm and the pack size and weight of the Telemark is great. I'll love taking it on longer hikes and I'm sure it's a keeper. I'm glad you're enjoying yours. You have any camps planned for this year?

Good review. I am considering one of these for me and my wife. Not sure how we could resolve the sleeping mat question. For info, there is a Telemark 2.2, with 2 doors. I'd like to see your opinion of the Nordisk Lofoten 2; 2 man tent at ~530g! Sadly it is £630 rrp, so I suspect you aren't likely to go out and buy one.
@TheWalkingKev
@TheWalkingKev 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm very much someone who buys used if the price is right. I've seen the 2.2 online and the Lofoten, would love to try them but don't have the money for that kind of tent sadly. Maybe if I sold most of my current tents I could try some others... But not always easy to sell tents on for near what you paid for them.

A good tent. I bought a Vango Xenon F10 UL Air (Airbeam) for silly money a while back. I was so happy but of course we still have 1 metre of snow so it will be a while before I get to use it. Tried so many tents but I keep going back to the 2 man tunnel for the space.

I've seen that tent, does look interesting. I think this is the most I've spent on a tent now! We had hardly any snow here this winter, just lots and lots of rain.

I also have the Nordisk Telemark 2 LW tent and my observations are very similar to yours. No way is it a 2 person tent! The first time I pitched it, I almost put the tent pole through the inner sleeve! It is a very thin material. Hence it's weight. Now I am very careful and delicate when I insert the pole. It's worth adjusting the 4 corner guy peg out points several times, or as many times as necessary, to remove folds and sags in the outer - that may end up touching the inner. Yes you always have to tighten the 4 guys during the night whether it's rained or not. If I don't, the inner will usually sag down onto the foot of my sleeping bag. The Nordisk official video includes a reminder to always tighten the guys. So they have warned us. Also that video says that to minimise condensation you may need to increase the airflow into the tent under the fly by raising the edge of the fly with a boot or rock or twig. (I can't recall seeing anyone ever do that!) My tip - to make the tent feel larger internally - is to unclip the inner, drop it to the floor, and put your mat on top. Suddenly you have headroom! For that weather you had, not too cold, slight breeze, not raining, that would have been an option. Also we need to remember, it's not a 4 season tent, it's a 3 season tent. If you look very carefully on the FAQs on the Nordisk website, you will find a 'fine print' note that all Nordisk tents are designed as 3 season tents. That's okay but it should be a bit easier to find! Summary: the Telemark LW 2 is like a 1960s sports car - great performance in a narrow area (weight & design) but requires very careful treatment and driving! All the best!😀

Yes, very true. Pack size and weight are important and a bit of condensation doesn't bother me. Also, although it's not got enough room for 2 people, it's very spacious for one person, so I can't complain too much about interior space. I guess Nordisk don't design any of their tents for snow loads, which is why they say they're all 3 season. I know some of them can take a lot of bad weather. I've used my Svalbard in the snow without issue, albeit it wasn't snowing heavily.

I’ve a little Robens tent similar to that. Nice little tent, but I find it too claustrophobic and prefer a bit more space. Nice spot but shame about the sun not showing it’s face 👍

I’m really not so much a fan of the Si tents anymore, not only because they absorb water and become saggy, but also because they are more flappy due to the ultra thin and lightweight nature of the material! I’d much rather carry a more sturdy 2kg Pu material tent these days. 👍🏻 Out of the 6 tents I now own, only 1 is Sil-Nylon, which is my Lanshan-1 Plus with 4-Season inner, so that’s my one and only “lightweight” option - when needed…⛺️
@TheWalkingKev
@TheWalkingKev 3 ай бұрын
There is certainly something to be said for PU tents. I've got a real selection of different tents and have yet to really whittle them down. I think it all depends on how far I intend to hike when camping as to how important pack size and weight is.

The greatest gift you can give to a backpacker or bikepacker is to tell them to write down what they NEED for comfort out on the road. Tent, mattress, sleeping bag, small stove set to make hot drinks, cup-a-soups, etc., change of clothing, waterproofs. For late spring - autumn camping give them a 25L rucksack and tell them it’s got to fit in that. Pare back on the “stuff” you think you need and free your mind of clutter 🙂

Hi Kevin. Nicely explained review of this tent 👍. I have watched this review and your one of the Vango helium UL2. I am thinking of purchasing one of them, but cant decide which one. I am currently using the Helm compact 1 which I love for its strength and head height but get frustrated by lack of space inside. Which of the two tents would you say gives the best head height and space ? and which feels the best in windy conditions. Thanks for any advice that you can give. All the best
