I really don’t think anyone is laughing at you and your determination to cook good meals. I’m laughing, at myself, wondering where I went so wrong in my life. The highlight of my days is watching your videos from my desk (that I’m chained to) at the large soulless corporation I work for. If anyone could be laughing it would be the other way around, but you would never do that because you are way to good of a person and you often comment how grateful you are for your opportunity to travel. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these videos, they really are a “mini escape” for some of us.

On my hikes, I always have enough gear to feel comfortable. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. With a motorcycle, the advantage is that you can carry more things, so I support your theory that the comfort level must be at a good point. Sandstorms are no joke. I found myself caught in sandstorms in New Mexico, eating dust and sand for three lifetimes. This place is truly exposed, and as the daytime temperature drops, the air starts to mix, and the winds kick in. Hopefully, the wind has calmed down overnight :) And, yes, I'm observing the pieces of equipment you use for my future motorcycle adventures. In this episode, I noticed the bandana, in some previous episodes, a cutting board, and a tarp... so, I'm taking notes and remembering, so when I set out, I have everything :)
@davidpoffenbarger3686 Жыл бұрын
I never felt like I had to be uncomfortable while camping. Modern equipment makes it easy to have what you need, as long as you're a bit flexible/adaptable. I will say I'd never consider driving out to the middle of a desert plain and setting up camp. Now that I see it, it makes sense, windstorm notwithstanding. Awesome content as always Sterling. Keep it up, you touch a lot of people.

As so many have commented, your camera work and editing is the best. The only thing that is off putting to me is the artificially dubbed engine sounds. My camping goal is to be as comfortable as possible with as little as possible. I'm not quite as gram conscious when motorcycling as I was when hiking or bicycling, but I enjoy traveling light and I enjoy simplicity. My biggest concession to comfort when moto camping was a lightweight camp chair. It seems that you're living your dreams, but you are definitely living my dreams. Thank you for sharing. It's inspirational.

Your photography is out of the ordinary! Its truly awesome! When you pitched the tent, I was thinking about the wind since that location had no wind protection. But when the sun set, the view and the surroundings were heavenly to the eyes! Even the tent gelled well with the evening sun and the desert sand. I enjoyed your cooking part and always look forward to what you will be cooking at the end of the day. Keep up the good work. May God bless you!

There's a group of Utah guys -- The ADV-F (adventure fundamentalist) riders -- who have a completely different packing style. No creature comforts, super minimalist (bottom shelf whiskey is allowed), agro bikes (heavily modified KTMs). Their goal is to camp off the bike while riding difficult terrain, which is much easier to do without the extra weight. Coming from a background of alpinism where weight is everything and it goes without saying, you're going to suffer, I've always thought of that as the gold standard and tried to emulate their "purist" style. But I can see the appeal of relaxing in a chair with a cold mojito after a hot day of riding. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Monitor Pass -- I haven't seen or traversed that since completing the Markleeville Death Ride by bicycle in 1991 when I wore a younger man's clothes (33 at the time). I appreciate your attitude about being relatively comfortable on these adventure rides -- good food, a chair and table and being resourceful. The monopod really makes sense for so many things and little wind drag. I've looked at the Applegate Immigrant Trail from Lovelock, NV to Cedarville, CA as a bucket list ride. Thanks for sharing your inspiring adventure.

Great video. Have frequented the Black Rock over Memorial Day weekend just about every year now going on 16 years. There’s a lot of great riding and interesting sites to check out e.g., High Rock Canyon, Lava Beds, Black Rock Point, Porter Spring, Rabbit Springs, Seven Troughs, the list goes on. Those rides better suited for your Husky. A lot of history too, old mining camps and immigrant trails.

Your cinematography is excellent, and I am eagerly anticipating additional content on your channel.
