Thanks for posting this! My folks and myself were on the train to Crossville, and looked to see if I could see us in the crowd during the run by. This was such an amazing trip.

I live in Spring City TN, I miss the days when these old steam trains would come through town, when I was a kid my mom would hear the whistle from miles away and drive us to town just to watch her go by.

Pretty sure the little kid on that 2538 unit was me, and I think my mom was with us too. My dad was the conductor on one of those trips and we rode on the second unit from Chattanooga up to Crossville... I remember an old wooden trestle bridge over a creek way down below and the bridge shook when we went over it. lol.

I was not wrong for loving the Norfolk and Western. Their whistles are the equivalent of a saxophone just a tad more squeeky.
