I remember I tried out for the NPD once, aced the tests but I couldn’t run fast enough 😂 moved elsewhere and now make more than they do. I noticed the vast majority of the NPD were severely lacking in intelligence, but I guess they could run really fast 😅

I went thru the Norfolk PD ERT school as a Marine when I was stationed In NORVA in 1985. I had a ton of respect for the NPD back then and even more for their ERT team. Now? It's sad to say, but NORVA is just like any other Dem-ruined city.

It’s not about pay. It’s about the leadership either not standing up to the nonsensical politicians or not having the power to. But mainly the first. I promise you, the men and women of this department would gladly stand side by side with one another regardless of numbers, if they were behind someone they believed in.

Our police DO NOT GET PAID ENOUGH. However, if they deserve more pay, then we deserve weeding OUT the bad, power tripping jerks in their ranks. It MUST be mandatory that officers get a review every 6 months on quality of service and ALL complaints taken VERY seriously with repercussions. I totally back the blue but if they are not going to SERVE the public according to the Constitution and THEIR oath, then BYE. The veteran officers should be making at LEAST 80k a year. Their job is one that FEW want to do. Why risk YOUR LIFE for ungrateful citizens? I couldn't do it.

Not so much about getting paid but the fact is you go do your job and you could go to prison or get fired depending on how your city's political climate is. I wouldn't want that to happen to me.
@Dan-di9jd2 жыл бұрын
Also, they already get qualifications and have mandatory training sessions. It's not like they just sit there and do whatever. A lot of these places do what they're told and even then they get thrown under the bus depending on what the political mood is. A lot of big cities where police recently got hit hard are flipping to red because of these policies causing officers to leave the force. No one wants to go to prison for doing their job.

Their training is horrible & they're sick of working with narcissistic, mentally ill cops who take the job as an opportunity to abuse & harass specific classes of people. They don't want to work with people who they have to lie for & have no respect for.

Whats more important is how well trained are the officers to handle wisely different situations. Where they have failed to do so for lack of good intense training. Plus make them acountable for bad corrupt behavior regardless of their position.

How is that gonna get more people to be a police officer
@Dan-di9jd2 жыл бұрын
At some point, an officer could do all they could and the situation still getting out of hand. That doesn't mean they should be fired or put into prison. Point is a lot of young people just don't want the hassle of being a police officer. It's no longer a noble career choice because depending on the political climate, you could go to prison for doing your job. What's really going to help recruit people is making sure we don't send officers doing their job to prison, and on top of that, showing our officers their jobs are making a positive impact to the community by making sure those they arrest don't just get put back on the streets to be repeat offenders that they arrest over and over again.

You are probably a nice person, but you are horribly under-informed. Modern police departments receive GREAT training in every facet of their jobs. Not only do they have extensive academies, but state mandated recurrent training each year. And, they do a tremendous job for a ridiculously low salary. The problem is that certain groups have gone out of their way to create the allusion that our officers are all a bunch of insensitive, incompetent buffoons. This is simply not true. We, as a society, need to start showing more support for our officers and victims of crime-- and be less concerned for the welfare of those who thumb their noses at law and order.

The current nationwide shortage of police officers has nothing to do with pay! We always paid good truck drivers more than we paid a good police officer (which is shameful on our part). The best police officers NEVER did what they did for pay, because the pay and the hours ALWAYS sucked ! The good ones did it because they cared and wanted to make a the world a better place; but, as a society, because of the bad behavior of a few, we have demonized them all. So much so, that I think only a total idiot would want to to join-- or remain-- in their profession-- at ANY price. God bless the good ones who are still sticking it out, as they are still the glue that is holding our holding our violent society together. I thank them for their service and dedication.

It goes beyond pay. That’s certainly the biggest issue at hand, but even in the best case scenario there’s more that needs to be done that the City of Norfolk hasn’t done and shows no indication of doing. You get what you pay for.
