I said “the taxes we pay to the county, and city. Where do they go? What do they get spent on?” She started to say it gets split up between various utilities and services. I stopped her and said “what if I, a taxpayer in your district, want a receipt for the money I’ve spent on the taxes in this county? I want to see where the government has decided to allocate my money, that I worked to earn. How much is spent on schools? Road maintenance? Police departments? Put in the pockets of the people we elected to spend that money on making our county better each day, and safer each day.” She was speechless. This is what should be happening. We purchased 2 used cruisers last year, but will be forced to let them go back because the County commissioners cannot seem to find the funding for them, as well as fuel! That’s right! Zero dollars are allocated for fuel! These same commissioners continue to lease new road graders, loaders, semi trucks and have more than enough workers to go around! It cost money to “Protect & Serve” but I promise it’s going to cost us a Hell of a lot more because they don’t have enough gas to catch a call! It’s pretty sad that county commissioners get to decide the budget for the sheriff department! Especially since most of them aren’t even smart enough to maintain a gravel road!

Finally personnel cost with your basic wage for your basic officer but then you have people who are better trained or specially trained like forensic and that isn’t even touching support staff or higher ranks all of which must deal with inflation and the increasing cost of living. A static budget is bad enough over the years because things will inevitably cost more so they will start to make do instead of having everything they need to do their job well but cutting a budget is basically a slow death sentence which has a proven correlation of not only making them ineffective but also more likely to making bad arrests. People need to realize how hard it is to get seasoned police, fire, paramedic, and other people in such small towns. Most people want to live in larger areas, have services, etc. Younger people often want to have families -- so they need to convince their wife to stay there and their kids to do the small-town life. So, when you get someone willing to stay... don't mess it up. When you have a police or other department with 5 to 10 people, losing one or two is devastating -- when you factor in shifts, holidays, injuries, sick days, etc. and still need two or three on duty at any time.

Mini-suburb, cracks me up. Blue Mound has been a little town with a little foot print since the 50s. Every square inch around it was swallowed up by Ft Worth yrs ago. It is part of the Eagle Mountain/Saginaw school district. The average home is maybe 1200 sq feet. So no, there is no tax base. In the 70s the police made their salaries on speeding tickets. The mayor has nada to work with. Blue Mound is good working class people aspiring to be Saginaw. They’d be happy just making it to Samson Park status. Give them a break folks.

AND $400,000 in utter FLUFF that can be cut from the budget? HOW MUCH IS THEIR TOTAL BUDGET? Is it $MILLIONS??????? That's CRAZY for a town of 2500. They just need to hire cheaper cops.

@@notmyname3883 its ran by liberals much like forth worth/dallas/houston (it basically is part of fort worth) so odds are the money was missused or "lost" or pure into some slush "general fund" which dems love using where nobody knows where or too what the money is actually going

@Not My Name in 2022 the town budget was $1.83 million and the police recieved over $1 million leaving $83000 for rest of town. So what happens to the fire dept, education, etc. Thats not a lot of budget to go around for a town of 2500 ppl. Taxes pay the salaries and for a town where the average home.size is 1200 sq ft. Do u really think these families can upkeep the cost of living if food, gas and utilities was increased.

They need the police chief a lot more than they need the petty bureaucrats, budget problem is solved.
