UPDATE: This is how the railroad reported this accident to the Federal Railroad Administration - GA47 was in the process of delivering 44 cars to the CSXT at Howells when they were required to couple to a standing cut of 23 additional cars previously placed in the yard track by a CSXT assignment. After coupling to the standing cars NS GA47 began the process of shoving them in to the clear and, while in the process of stopping, the equipment began free rolling due to a train separation and the air being bottled on the 23 cars GA47 had coupled to. There were not any injuries related to this incident. E30C Knuckle broken or defective H305 Instruction to train/yard crew improper

Let me clarify some things.. Yes, the engines were being run remotely by the yard job. It was stopped preparing for the next move. It was exactly where it was supposed to be. NS was shoving the track next to it. They come every day to drop off and pick up cars. As they were shoving, a cut of cars went too far and collided with the side of the CSX remote engine. At this time i cannot say whether they were shoved or had broke loose and continued to roll downhill. Bottom line is a cut of cars from NS went too far, collided, and derailed, causing a fire on the remote engine. And yes, the white stuff on the ground is fire retardant.

The cats that went to the ditch were from 542 for ns, there's some things that were done that wouldn't have been done I won't mention, but for once a rc job isn't at fault. Howell is a bad place for the work they're trying to do there, but it's the new Tilford so good luck with all the bs lol. This isn't the first and won't be the last

I was sitting in a yard office one time and an old head conductor from another crew was sitting in there drinking coffee and waiting for the Trainmaster and entourage to arrive. When the Trainmaster showed up he naturally asked the old head what had happened, to which the old head replied, “Obviously the track was too short”

It looks to me like the CSX train overshot the point where it was going to be clear of the switch and hit the NS train. 1702 is clearly fouling the switch. Perhaps the remote operator misjudged the speed and/or weight of the train (pure conjecture at this point).

Shipping freight as efficiently as possible is the problem. That causes the railroads to slack in maintenance and training. The more maintenance and training they do the more money they lose.

I gotta laugh. Why? I have a G scale layout, well, I purchased an NS loco only because I like their paint scheme...here's the laugh, it would NEVER stay on the rails no matter what I did, it also had a nasty habit of pulling the consist off the rails, even on straight sections! I finally just scavanged it for spare parts. Worst loco in my fleet, and I've got CSX, Rio Grande, C&O and some Holiday(Christmas) loco's that were the same size as the NS I bought. All of them, except the NS had no issues pulling the same consists without issues. So, I won't be pursuing any more NS loco's for my G-Scale empire! Just seems they take off on their 1:1 counterparts!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@dmvspotting
@dmvspotting Жыл бұрын
@made-in-the80s this derailment happened because of an interchange job: NS was bringing a cut of cars from Inman to Howell, and collided with CSX. CSXs locos are RCL, so ofc someone was controlling them from outside. that's LITERALLY the basics of what happened and thats as deep as it can get basically. the video is right there for you to watch.

The US needs to up it's safety and maintance standards. 1000 ish derailments is ridiculous. Fewer incidents = more profits by paying less insurance/ compensation.
@conductormike3step
@conductormike3step Жыл бұрын
I agree with being safe. I used to work for CSX. But the standards are already almost over bearing for us that are train crew. It needs to have new policies and laws on the regulatory side of things. CSX has safety standards above FRA recommendations/minimums. From my experience, it boils down to the lack of man power from the companies not willing to hire the right amount of MOW maintenance and mechanical staff to properly inspect and repair deficiencies and companies setting safety standards and then firing or reprimanding people for following those standards because it takes more time to get the train moving to its destination. They make you not want to report safety issues in fear of reprimand. That’s mainly why I left. Plus they force you to work knowing darn good and well you didn’t get to the hotel in time to get your full rest time then blame the bottom line employees for everything. Employees are miserable and that makes for an unsafe workplace because employees are fed up and just don’t care.

@@MrGus.1 I agree 100%. It just stinks that I was suspended without pay for 2 days for “causing a delay” because I found a bad order car that wasn’t safe to use and set it off. We left about 8 minutes late. I contacted a union rep and nothing ever came of it. I lost out and got a negative mark. For doing the right thing. The Fran of a coal hopper had a huge crack. These companies need to be accountable. I take safety very serious.

The railroad is governed by the (FRA) Federal Railroad Administration. The (DOT) is Department of Transportation. The weight allowed to haul is based on many factors but most importantly the structure such as the condition of the rail and ties. A 1/2 inch flang of each wheel holds the train to the track

@made-in-the80s Sorry, but no. Derailments are roughly constant, at about a thousand a year. The number of really serious derailments fluctuates year by year. The number of fairly minor derailments like this one, that the media generally don't pick up on, is fairly constant. And the red herring is media coverage, which spikes as soon as there are a couple of fairly serious derailments in quick succession, and starts covering minor derailments that you wouldn't otherwise hear of.

Now since hes been in transportation We've had more train racks than ever And they're over 90 carts long Which is supposed to be against the law. For instance a train stop by where I live a man on the other side of the tracks was having a heart attack. Since the Ambulance had to go all the way around because of the Train stopped at the crossing by the time they got there he was dead. In my eyes The head of transportation needs to go to jail For murder!! And also for all the money he stole for my city!!!!
