...Most I've seen was back in the 70s, when an 8 loco team was pulling open gondola cars with a shitload of scrap metal of all types (gigantic old gears, pipes, motor housings, scrap from punch press blanking, steel frames, a few of the cars filled with old cast iron engine blocks, rusted old car panels, and what looked like cut up plates from ship superstructures), all headed for the then big steel mills in Pittsburgh...

Awesome Video! that first train was a good way to start the video with that 10 unit lashup! that Geep pulling the string of hoppers was cool too. The scherer trains are still getting pretty good power these days. And for the closing, the SD90MAC was AWESOME! those are Really Rare!
@NorfolkSouthernES44AC8 жыл бұрын
Yes they sure are, a lot more exciting now than back in April/May/June when it was all "Pumpkin Specials", nothing against the Pumpkins, a trains a train, but still when they're on every single coal train......you wish for a little variety. Was nice to see #7247 again, NS rebuilt they're 50th SD70ACU this week so the window is really closing on them. Thanks Harrison!

The horn does not seem very loud. Do they stupidly have the horns facing backward becausengine crews complain they are too loud in the cab? When I was riding Amtrak head end, we had safety glasses and ear-plugs. I was to wear my own steel-toed shoes.
@NorfolkSouthernES44AC5 жыл бұрын
No its facing forward, it was probably my camcorder and or the wind that day that made it not seem loud. Sometimes when the wind was right you could hear a train leaving the yard in Memphis a full 10 miles away and then hear the horn get louder and louder. Then when it reached you it was like WOW, incredibly loud. Some like cloudy foggy days you wouldn't hear the horn until the train came thru the xing you were at.

@NorfolkSouthernES44AC5 жыл бұрын
I've seen it flash when the gates are down, but also when like an ambulance is coming thru and they want to keep the traffic light red or whatever, I think its just some sort of tech for the intersection.
