On your pair of Camp axes you have the ax and then a small Hatchet are there any markings on the hatchet? I just bought a pair of axes and I'm hoping the small one is the match set

I’m really curious about the “japaning” process used by Norlund. All the japaning I’m familiar with is black, yet the Norlunds I’ve seen with remnants of their original coating are a metallic teal/green, or burnt metallic orange. I’m fascinated by the mystery of how they got those colors that way.

Do you have any idea what kind of steel was used to make these beauties? My Dad died a couple months ago and left me this adorably tiny little Hudson Bay styled hatchet. I looked closer at it and saw “Norlund” on the poll and I thought, “Who’s that?” Cause all I know are modern companies like Council, Gransfors, etc. I’m thinkin about restoring and re-handling it cause it’s all rusty now. Can’t be even a foot tall.
@KillingerUSA Жыл бұрын
No idea on the steel but it's good.

I just purchased a Genuine Norlund axe head on eBay. It’s my favorite brand, but I cannot tell what the model is. It’s shaped similarly to the Canadiein or the camper but they are lighter. It’s 7 1/2 inches long and 3 pounds in weight. The bit is 4 3/8 inches high. The transition from the eye to the bit does not seem drastic enough for it to be a Hudson Bay pattern axe. The cheeks are flat there aren’t any phantom bevels. Can you give me any idea what model this is? Thanks so much for your time and have a great day.
@KillingerUSA Жыл бұрын
It's either the log splitter or the cabin. Both videos are in the plays list on my channel
@toolscouter Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. It’s not the log splitter because I have one of those so it must be the cabin axe. I’ll look up your video. Thanks again and have a good one.
@toolscouter Жыл бұрын
Sorry to bother you again, but there are no phantom bevels on this one. I tried to send you a picture, but it wouldn’t let it go through. Any other ideas would be great. Thanks again for your time.

I inherited this Norlund axe and restored it for use, stripping off the old varnish and cleaned and sharpened the blade; can you tell me which model it is? The bit matches the Tomahawk but mine doesn't say Tomahawk. It looks like the big one on the camping pair but no engraving on the handle (original handle as it still has the orange, a bit of it anyway); maybe the Voyager Hudson Bay? i.imgur.com/p9R5Eje.jpg i.imgur.com/0NiToUy.png i.imgur.com/4xLFFmH.png i.imgur.com/5Lsr4l3.jpg i.imgur.com/Bv1ZQDv.jpg i.imgur.com/60YfXbh.jpg I got your message and added a few more pictures, do they work now?

Link won't work for me. I have a whole series here on youtube with every known pattern. You should be able to match it up from my videos.

@@BadgerMonkey that is the norlund Tomahawk, bigger of the 2 Hudson Bay patterns. Only other thing you can try without re hanging it is soak the eye in boiled linseed oil
