You did a wonderful job of explaining what you did with the handle. The center line tip is great! Gotta love those old Norland axes.

Nicely done. I haven't worked up the courage to make a handle yet. I will some day. I will have to remember the tubing for the tip of the Shinto rasp when I pick one up. Im a True Temper guy, but you are making me want to purchase a Norland 😂

Yes sir I am biased. Nothing wrong with true temper, I have a few, but I love my Norlunds. One thing to note, Norlund was a sporting axe, it was not for lumberjacks. Most timbermen felt they were too light. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with them though. While in Ohio, I picked up a true temper kelly works double bit axe. There’s some pitting, but you can still read it. I’ll be restoring it one of these days. Good luck with all the tough decisions.😁 Have a great day.

You showed the wedged end on this one, which is fun. But why didn’t you add a steel wedge as well? And you didn’t show sawing the slot for the wedge, and you didn’t drill a hole along the bottom of that slot, to prevent tearing. Finally, you really should remove that shellac from the head and polish up the whole thing. Just keep the head waxed and you’ll avoid rust.

Hi there thanks so much for your comment. I did not put a steel wedge in this particular ask because I don’t really intend do use it. I have four of these and I use one of the others when I want to. I don’t know why I didn’t show the cutting of the slot. In editing sometimes angles are bad or blurry or just not good so they get scrapped. As for drilling a hole at the bottom, I do my very best to keep the eye full so that there is complete contact from the top to the bottom. I also measure my wedges depth. Because they’re so tight they should not split or run down the handle and I only pound to the depth that I’ve measured. Thanks again for taking an interest in the time to comment. Have a great day and God bless.
