I’ve noticed that Brits find “boyfriend” or “girlfriend” juvenile. In the US and possibly Canada (just based off Norm being Canadian) it’s very common at all ages to use those terms for significant others.

I think it depends where in the US. My mother in law, in her 70's, had a "boyfriend" after her husband passed and we really struggled saying "her boyfriend". The man remembers the moon landing! He's no "boy"friend!😂

That's actually not true. Norrm himself said years later that he knew people watching at home changed the channel with some of his jokes but he was doing it for himself not to please the viewers and that's why he got fired. You don't want to keep a guy that makes most people turn away from your show. He was actually offered to keep doing sketches and writing but not the update where others couldn't intervene with the jokes. If you watch entire shows he actually used to get booed often even in the studio lol.

His standup show was called "Me Doing Standup". I had seen snippets of him over the years on SNL, but never really had much of a sense of him. Then one day, driving down the road, one of his bits from that standup show came on. I was gob smacked! Every other good comedian is funny. Norm is the absolute essence and incarnation of funny. There are bits here and there that if taken out of context will lead you astray. For example, when he had his podcast, he would sometimes say extremely outlandish things and you'd think, "Norm what have you said?" However, even in those moments, what he is saying is not the point at all. It's to make his guest squirm and it is the guest's REACTION that is the comedy gold he's gong for. I absolutely love the fact that he is 100% sure of what is funny and his confidence in it does not depend even one iota on whether any or all of the audience agrees. He will stone-cold stare the audience down and force them into submission until they laugh. If you watch enough interviews with him you will discover that the human quality he cared most about was kindness. Anything he ever said that seemed cruel was not about cruelty but humor. As a human being, one of the sweetest to ever walk the earth. I miss him every day and is one of only 2 or 3 people that I never had the pleasure to meet, whose passing made me weep. Many shots of tequila raised in salute to him that night... and a few more since!

Norm has a Netflix Special, and a season of Norm MacDonald show. He had a perticular style of comedy, seemingly simple and a bit silly. Many got fooled, cause he was smart as heck and quite genious in his delivery. Most of the time, peeps thought he was bombing, but when he infact was doing it on purpose or just checking the "waters". Often peeps has to watch sketches several times to get the real line ;) He also been on Comedians In Cars having Coffee.

Maybe you guys should check out his relentless O.J. Simpson jokes on SNL. It’s dated, of course, but still funny, and I think it’s the main reason he got fired form the show. I think he was asked to stop with the O.J. Stuff, but he wouldn’t. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong on that.

Oprah showed her true colors at a Kmart GGO way back in the day. Old private golf course hosting a large tournament. Stedman was playing. Oprah showed up and had her driver drive her car through the course and tried to park next to the green he was on. She made such a stink they asked her to leave. One thing about Norm's commentary on Women writers to the great SNL writer Jim Downey. That was from 2007-08 range. At that time about 1 out 6 writers on SNL were female. Previous to that, a lot of years it was as bad as 1:10. It's like asking an NBA coach in 1952 to name five great black NBA players. They hadn't been given a chance yet. If Norm asked that question today, Downey could add to Paul Pell, Heather Campbell, Sarah Schneider, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Leslie Jones, Christine Nangle, Katie Rich, Anna Drezen and probably dozens more I just don't know about, but who have written on shows I love. And wouldn't you know it, once they started hiring funny female writers, the female cast members largely started being the biggest stars. Few things have aged as poorly as the early 2000's take that men are funnier than women.

lol, Norm loves to set people up. That "name 5 great women writers on SNL" bit is a prime example. Even if there are a ton, thinking of even a few on the spot can be a challenge, especially because you're not just going to think of a person, you're going to try and separate and classify. In your head you'll go over who had the best bits recently and whether it made you laugh, etc. and Norm takes this opportunity, the first sign of weakness to make a joke and "move it along" so-to-speak. Granted, idk what time period this was, but SNL has had some pretty shitty writers. They especially do these days. The Tina Fey/Amy Poehler days were good for female talents, but idk what and how much they wrote on SNL. Probably quite a few things considering that's how the show seems to work from what I know.

I always assumed that he wasn’t serious when he put women down in his act, but a couple of those comments at the end of the video gave me pause - there was nothing funny about it. Also, calling an adult female a “girl” instead of a woman is kind of telling.
