He was a starveling reeder. He probably got the phrase "as thin as a shadow" from Vilette by Charlotte Bronte

This is a really beautiful channel, thank you for making it. I know I’m one of many thousands of people who are inadvertently exhausting all the (massive) back catalog of Norm talking, especially since he passed. This adds more from his words - thank you

Bob Dylan through Norm MacDonald's eyes beautiful. Don't be a typist and don't expect a reward and don't miss Bob Dylan when he comes to town.

How apt that Norm's favorite is Job. After so many tribulations in his life, Norm surely identified with Job. I hope Norm was rewarded even if Job wasn't.

When I first read this twitter thread a couple of months ago I was haunted by the notion of "typists" and "stenographers". I am a songwriter myself, it's been my way of life and the name I have defined myself with. The idea that those 136 songs and countless other poems I've written over the past few years are no more than stenography is terrifying. How do we know what is "real" writing and what isn't? Leave it to Dylan to throw another mystery into our world of numb certainty.

Maybe he means that the best writing is writing the way you speak. Speak well = write well?
@kerryhirsch97052 жыл бұрын
@@sviborgamulin3929 I think he means that most writers arent absorbed in the craft and art of writing itself, but tend to just repeat things they've heard. Stenographers just transcribe court proceedings.

Beautiful. But I can't help but wonder if this is brilliant Norm Macdonald fiction? I want to believe it really happened, but maybe it doesn't matter.
@damosuzuki4125Ай бұрын
I don't think it happened. It is a long joke and the punchline is "don't be fooled by typists". Meaning, he is just typing on twitter and trying to fool everyone with the story. Will you be fooled?

This is great and all, but I've also heard that Leonard Cohen was a huge Norm fan, and would always go see his live standup shows in Canada. And allegedly, when informed about his legendary fan being in the audience, Norm said he didn't give a crap! :O I mean... wtf man?! Lol
