Oh Rimbranza is beautiful is this performance. It’s as close to perfection as you can get. Pathos, a smooth legato and coloratura that’s perfect.

Η απλότητα, καθαρότητα και απαλότητα της φωνής της Μονσεράτ Καμπαγιέ είναι σαν αίσθηση αιθέριου βελούδου που αιωρείται τριγύρω και μας τυλίγει! Αιωνία της η μνήμη! Σπάνιο φαινόμενο ο συνδιασμός φινέτσας, αισθησιασμού, υψηλής αισθητικής, άψογης άρθρωσης, υποκριτικού και τραγουδιστικού ταλέντου!

I can understand the adoration of the crowd, but I love the way she put up her hand and they stopped. It’s very complimentary when the audience cheers, but it holds up the opera.

Yes. But it was not ONLY for Caballes singing,. It was the Cold War. And the Audience in Russia reacted esp. with "west-singers" in this Way. I know Edda Moser very, very well and she had sung a loz in the 70s in Russia. Lucia, Queen of the Night, Gilda and Donna Anna. And she told me that the Audience was very, very compliementary.

I'm here for Montserrat, of course, but I'd like to add that Ivo Vinco was my favorite Oroveso. Caballe and her husband, Bernabe Marti, performed ''Norma'' with Fiorenza Cossotto and her husband, Vinco, many times; I've never seen a video, though.

@@edithhenson6917 Lots of times. Bernabe was Pollione to Sutherland's Normal in Philadelphia before Montserrat sang the role. They traveled and performed together until Bernabe had a heart attack in San Francisco and retired to their ranch outside Barcelona in 1985.

В 1974 году в Большом театре было дано всего 3 спектакля "Норма" в рамках гастролейф Ла Скала. Кто пел партию Оровезо - не помню. Поллиона во всех спектаклях пел Джанни Раймонди, а Адальджизу - и Ф.Коссото и Б.Бальони. ТВ СССР, по-моему, 1-й канал снимал все спектакли и примерно через 1 мес. после окончания гастролей "Норма", сформированная из лучших мест 3-х спектаклей, была показана по телевизору... Мне посчастливилось побывать на одном из этих потрясающих спектаклей... Спасибо автору, который разместил этот прекрасный ролик.. Зрители не отпусткали Монтсеррат Кабалье почти час после окончания спектакля.. Это было нечто невероятное...

Ирина, здравствуйте! Нет, Вы ошибаетесь, снимали только один спектакль. Третий. Он был утренний, в 12 часов. В первом пела Адальжизу Коссото, во втором Коссото пела только ! первый акт, явно распереживавшись, что третий спектакль отдают Больони (из экономии - так как спектакли, снимавшиеся телевидением означали двойную ставку, а они у Коссото и Больони "чуть" отличались)) - поэтому и поставили Больони, а не Коссото) так вот именно из за этого Коссото на втором спектакле в антракте (когда уже выплата полного гонорара) отказалась дальше петь. Что касается Кабалье - она пела все три спектакля (Норму никто не может заменить) и это - третий. Спасибо Фурцевой - принимавшей лично решение о сьемке "Нормы" Центральным телевидением СССР. Уникальный и с точки зрения творческой судьбы Кабалье - легендарный и абсолютно знаковый спектакль...

Спасибо за комментарий, но может всё же Коссотто попросту заболела, то есть были проблемы с голосом, ведь партия Адальджизы весьма тесситурная и сложная для меццо, также, кажется, она пела и в Фаворитке (или в другом спектакле, не помню уж, много времени прошло), поэтому её голоса и не хватило на весь блок спектаклей

Bruna Baglioni was a last minute replacement for Fiorenza Cossotto. The role's difficulty is felt by Baglioni and Caballe offers her support, literally: 1:16:54 Baglioni turns, in dread, listening to Caballe about to sing the line that she herself has to sing in a moment, which is difficult for any mezzo, let alone a last minute replacement. 1:17:14 Baglioni paces herself tentatively with the first few lines. 1:17:28 Caballe takes Baglioni's hands for support. 1:17:32 Caballe positions her body and arms in such a way that Baglioni can use her for literal physical support. 1:17:35 Baglioni's tone starts to waver and Caballe takes her by the shoulder. 1:17:39 We can start to see the side of Caballe's face, a focused look of support. 1:17:52 Caballe extras braces herself and her arm again and leans into Baglioni during the high note. 1:18:03 We start to see the side of Caballe's face/eyes turn to a smile. 1:18:06 A big smile from each of them.. 1:18:11 Focus time again. Can tell Caballe sings it with very even timing, and clearly vocalized to keep it simple to Baglioni can navigate the cadenza. 1:19:04 A genuine embrace of thanks from Baglioni, and beaming pride from Caballe.

This goes to show what a truly fine person Montserrat was giving that kind of support to a colleague! She herself being the lead in so many ways!! Such an Angel to so many! Long the memory of this great lady!!!

Yes,but isn’t this because the characters of Norma and Adalgisa are friends in the story and are there for each other as friends and so are supporting each other in that way?

Приятный сюрприз, даже не знал, что есть такая запись. Я присутствовал на другом спектакле "Норма" , на котором шикарно пела Косотто, густым широким голосом, а в антракте объявили, что из-за ее болезни во втором действии будет петь синьора Бруна Бальони, которая тоже пела превосходно, хотя голос ее не такой эффектный и значительно выше.

I found some of the staging to be pathetically stodgy, especially compared to the 1974 production at Orange. (The Bolshoi stage is enormous; no need to park and bark.) But In Mia Man was beautifully staged. Maybe the two leads took some liberties with the instructions? The singing doesn’t get any better than this.

@@debbiejohnson2789 The Orange one ,has to be unique in that she sang in the wind and very difficult conditions of Orange itself .The performance was absolutely stunningly magnificent.NORMA at the Bolshoi and many others were all amazing but Orange has to be the best of all ,for ever .🥰💗💟💕💞💓b
