One of the best dedicated series for Aerodynamics, the simplest and most thorough explanation. I enjoyed your course a lot. Yours thankfully 🌹.

I learnt from different sources but no body has ever explained the practical implication for the variables across shock or they explain what characteristic mach and sonic to this depth yet simple terms. Have to say you are the best teacher

I dont usually leave comments but this video is top TIER, I have my gas dynamics final tmm and was hoping to truly grasp the concepts of shocks and this video did it for me. THANK YOU🎉

How did we use Bernoulli's equation in normal shocks, which is a basic condition for using it, assuming that the density is constant?
@prof.vanburen Жыл бұрын
Hi and sorry for the late reply! The semester got a way from me. This is a great comment. I think I am technically wrong for saying it is Bernoulli itself, because it is really just a derivation from a control volume approach of this 1D analysis that spits out an equation *like* the Bernoulli equation. So, great point on your part!

Isn't M2=M1 a solution to the equations of conservation of energy, momentum and mass? Why this doesn't happen though?
@prof.vanburen Жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry I'm not sure I understand, why doesn't what happen?
@antoniotonisi2419 Жыл бұрын
In the normalshock equations, the air could just maintain the same velocity and same proporties and still all equations of conservation of mass, momentum and energy would be met. With that, I meant M1=M2. However, this doesn't happen. The air does change velocity. Why so?
@prof.vanburen Жыл бұрын
@@antoniotonisi2419 it's because locally disturbances like pressure fluctuations have nowhere to go, the vehicle is literally going so fast it outruns them. In subsonic flow they move away from the source quickly, but in supersonic flow they build and build. This is partially a reason why the flow just can't stay happy where it is where M1=M2. I'm not sure I helped but I hope so!
