My Ricky had a bad pickup and the neck warped. Piece of shit; got rid of it and got a Precision. Did a lot of recording with the Ricky, but it was worse than my Ricky 12-string: they forgot to widen the neck to account for the extra strings.

I have a'76 Rickenbacker 4001 stereo with black truss rod cover,black pick guard, black binding and oddly enough white binding on the neck.Great bass.

I was stuck in traffic today so I started looking at cheap basses for sale , not even thinking about what day it is. Then I come home to this. It's a sign, I must buy a bass. I am a little surprised that Mark didn't talk about the difference between the 4001 and the 4003. Perhaps there is no difference.I had a Rickenbacker 4001 and it was very much the same as this. Anyway some very nice rockin' out with that bass. Great show Mark and Jen. Byeeee...

My Bass Top 5 Electric Basses: 1) Rickenbacker4001(autumnglo) 2) Fender P-bass (ashtray cover) 3) Gibson EB-0 (long scale darkest cherry) 4) Fender J-bass (63 burst ashtray, ebony) 5) MusicMan StingRay4(darkburst, ebony) Now as a touring musician you know you’ll get a wildcard or wrench thrown into the mix so I always take a back up. #1. RIC 4001 #2. 1976 P-bass black on black maple board. Those most likely would be main and back up. However if I only am taking one of those then for my backup....get ready for it....... StingRay4! It can do anything. Simple to work on, one pickup, bolt on neck, all around easy to work on before the next nights gig. Most likely find everything you need to fix it at a Guitar Center. And last but not least they are a punchy powerful hit ya in the gut, and maintaining an awesome clear tone. It’s original of course not an Ernie Ball years (not that those are bad instruments) I have always been a collector of either rare factory colors and/or the earliest specimens I can find and afford of course they’d have to been known for being exceptional instruments. For example a 1959 Gibson burst. Affordable is kinda relative when dealing in classic guitars. But I’ve decided that instead of buying an R-9 brand new at an obsurd price, I’d rather save for 5-10 years and get a lone for the rest because I have great credit plus it’s an original 1959 with original PAF’s. The holy grail of electric guitar and the greatest example ever made through all the years of production. Bottom line it’s getting harder and harder to find one. Have the money now so at this point it’s a wait and searching game. You can almost taste it. With that kinda money it’s easy to get side tracked and say hey I could buy these three guitars for the same as the 59 burst. But NO!!! However that was quite a digression but I love to share personal anecdotes and opinions to get an idea of what other players and collectors are doing not just reading a magazine article! Yeah they did all their guitars in this color scheme. 360s & 330s are both somewhat common in natural / black. Laura Jane Grace from Against Me! plays one as her number 1.

That bridge looks like a replacement. A 1986 bridge would have the two extra screws holding down the back of it... and it would be black to match the rest of the hardware.
