It’s like if people started suing for stealing dance moves. OMG! It is the same song. They just slowed down the speed to make it sound less Euro Club Dance, they changed some of the lyrics, and some of instruments. You can tell they are similar and the lawsuit is valid. When I first heard the song with Sam Smith and Normani, it sounded like something I heard before. I got the vibe it was "borrowed" somewhere. not sure how no one else hears it. thats so bizarre to me.

How many times to people need to hear that it’s not just the lyrics! Holy shit! If you speed up “Sam’s” song it sounds just like the original, because they are pretty much the same chorus. Sure you can use the same lyrics, but once the music also sounds similar it’s a problem 💀

In 2023, Californian judge Wesley L Hsu dismissed the case on Wednesday, saying that “most if not all of the plaintiff’s claimed similarities” were not protectable by law, and that the phrase “dancing with a stranger” was not unique enough, pointing out “nearly 20 references” in other previous songs.

I do hear a similar melody in the one line, the second time it’s sung but that’s it. It’s not exactly the same at all and the songs are completely different. Sam’s and Normani could have easily created this independently. EDIT: having listened to it quite a few times, I can hear the same underlying melody in the instrumental of both songs. It’s just a lot faster
@iCanbEYOURrUKIA2 жыл бұрын
Depends on which came out first 🤷🏽♀️ honestly labels will steal samples and change up the tempo and not even tell their artist where it came from. The other guy might have played it for other labels maybe and it got picked up down the line? Music and melodies are all like 6 degrees away from each other, hard to make something truly unique. That being said, Normani and Sam Smith was a brilliant and clearly winning combo. Their vocies compliment so well, they need to collab again!
