J-45 is my all time favorite guitar. My Dad bought a J-45 brand new in 1962. It’s the guitar I learned to play on. It’s been my best friend from my teenage years to present day. Whenever I looked at guitars I was always disappointed because nothing gave me that booming sound I had become accustomed to. That J-45 spoiled me. I quit trying to find that sound in other guitars. I still have this Old Workhorse today along with a few others for their own distinctive tones.

Love the tone of the J-45, and Mark is playing it the right way: hard. It gives the best when you are not gentle with it. Boom!

Wow what a swell guitar! Although I am a day late and Mark already acknowledged the sad passing of Ed King yesterday I just learned something about him that I had not known. He also played in a late 1960's psychedelic band called the Strawberry Alarm Clock who had a delightful pop hit called "Incense and Peppermints" that is fondly remembered by those of us in the geezer class. They were quite well known back in the day but largely forgotten now. If you like that sort of thing check them out.
@Nipstersongs16 жыл бұрын
Geezer class, Yes, that's me. Ha! I saw The Alarm Clock spring break 1968, Daytona Community College. They and Buffalo Springfield opened for The Beach Boys. The Strawberry Alarm Clock were great. They were polished musically and they wore the coolest psychedelic outfits. I'll never forget it. Another mild hit of their's was "Tomorrow". One I always loved. Thanks for conjuring up those memories. Jim
@clarkweichmann34526 жыл бұрын
The Strawberry Alarm Clock may have seemed like veterans for a reason. Back in their active days, there was a rumor that they were a repurposed Ronnie And The Daytonas to catch the psychedelic wave. Who knows? Anything's possible.

that's a classic for sure , and a great sound , strong and resonant with some great ring. Well played Mark. I love this show but I do miss the days when you actually told us about the guitar , like the wood its made from , the bracing , what actually makes it special , different from other vintages of the same model , learning about these classics is half the fun of the show. just sayin. Can't wait to see which guitar you give away , thanks guys.
