Norse Mythology/The Norse Gods have had a profound impact upon civilisation, with tales of Odin, Thor, Loki, Borr, Surt, Mimir, Freya and Tyr captivating audiences since creation. Get a Free Book with a 30-day free trial at audible.com/thelifeguide or text thelifeguide to 500-500 (US only).
In the beginning, there was nought but a great yawning void known as Ginnungagap. The first realm to form was Muspellsheim in the south, a bright land, engulfed in fire and guarded by Surt with his flaming sword. To the north formed Niflheim, the freezing land of fog, containing the spring Hvergelmir, from where the primordial rivers began to flow.
From driftwood, Odin and his brothers created new life. Odin gifting them breath and life, Vili intelligence and feeling and Ve form, speech, hearing and sight. Thus, the first humans were born, a man and a woman, Ash and Elm. They were given a home in Midgard and it is here where humans still reside to this day.

Dr. DeadPool I can’t think of it off the top of my head but there is at least one civilization who’s mythology or belief also had a flood in in it. I want to say Greek but I just heard it. The difference was a king wanted to learn how the man, who was like Noah, become one of the Gods. He explained that he over heard how the world would be flooded and tricked the people into helping him build a boat. Told them he was moving away and the people couldn’t help any faster, they really wanted him gone. So the world flooded and the people died besides “Noah”. So the Gods rewarded him with Immortality for saving the human race. Listen to Mythologies on Parcast. Really great stories

After studying many of the worlds mythologies and religions it’s always striking to see some details that all seem to share. Christianity shares a lot of small details with Norse mythology especially. -Death and resurrection of the primary god -Horn being blown at the end of the world -A serpent being an incarnation of evil -A world changing flood being escaped through an ark -Two initial humans -The world serpent and the leviathan And really a ton more.

I think the christianity resemblance is actually intentional because Indo Eruopean mythologies share many parallels like all the Greek; Norse ; Baltic and Vedic mythologies have many concepts that are basically the same. One of these being the world serpents and stuff ; So it might be that When first christians were compiling the Old testament they might have shoved those in.

It never ceases to amaze me that similarities in the creation myths. Many religions have common themes but different names, it just makes one wonder how the interpretations came about and what truth, (if any) could be derived from each. I bet the a culmination of a single truth from each religions creation story would in fact comprise a real origin story of humanity, it however, seems impossible to know which parts hold truth, and which parts are just very interesting story telling.

just one thing, Hel isn't where dishonorable people go after death. Snori had even written and described it as having gold floor, mead brewing, and waiting with a shield to welcome Baldr in his Eddas. Aside from that everything is pretty spot on.

In attack on titans for example, the original titan is Ymir. The warhamer titan is definitely a reference to Thor. All of that without dismissing the fact that we are talking about "titans", referencing the giants.

And now that GOW happened, I'm back from it again... Tony, if you stumble on this. Thank you! : ) P.s. Jogunmandr was cute af!! xD

Mythology, for most parts, is a metaphor for birth and rebirth. If you take a closer look at Yggdrasil, you might realise that it actually represents the placenta. So, Odin hanging from Yggdrasil represents the process of him being reborn, hence the 9 days should be seen as the 9 months of pregnancy. Same goes for the other mentions of the number 9. It all revolves around birth and rebirth.

I wanted to learn more about Norse mythology. Ever since I finished watching Vikings, I've been fascinated with learning more about them and their culture. I've watched at least 3 different documentaries now. None of which explained Norse mythology or their God's beyond Odin, Thor, Loki and Freya. Listening to this has been not only informative but intriguing and eye opening as well. I would have never imagined there were stories that could rival the ridiculousness of the Bible. I was very wrong. I will say I have been thoroughly entertained though. Also fun fact. The first time I ever heard of Odin was when I played Final Fantasy VII, as he was one of the summons. At that time I had no idea who he was. Pretty cool to think about a Japanese made game incorporating Norse mythology:)

Hey you! I'm just starting down this path & I wanted to share a cool way to look at those "stories that could rival the ridiculousness of the Bible" Lessons are taught as lessons today, although lots of lessons are hidden in music, movies, & media... Now before technology took over, books & tales were how lessons were shared. Now take that another step back, to before language had developed into what it is today & suddenly it makes some absurd ideas make a lot more sense! Just hear me out for a second... Here's a weird thought I have about that one Bible verse about two men who lie together.. but using this new perspective... What if before aids had been discovered & understood; they learned that men who had sex would die more often & made a tale to explain why that was a "sin" to prevent people from doing so

Vikings is very inaccurate to the actual practice as a norse pagan myself I can say do not use Vikings or assassins creed Valhalla for accuracy in depicting notse heathenry read The Poetic Edda. The Pros Edda isn't truly pagan and is written by a Christian where as the poetic is written by pagan folk.

@adalienicole4301 of course! Trust me, I know exactly what you mean, I grew up Jewish so I'm no stranger to religion bashing. Personally I think it's sad people can't accept and appreciate others beliefs and practices simply because they are different from their own. I love learning new things and I find other cultures and religions fascinating. :)

When you think of the Norse mythos in terms of metaphor and parable, it becomes a lot deeper and makes a lot more sense. Great to delve into and reflect deeper on. And to derive strength from. Also, Heill Oðinn

As a swede, I fucking love this. I do love the greek mythologies from my childhood, but looking in to the whole Ragnarök-mythologhy as an adult is actually awesome. Got so much around me ya know. And naw, We usually don’t se Loke as an adversary. He’s more like the uncle with bagage. But, Balder. That was low, man. 🤔
