How were the Nine Realms forged? - Odin's tour of the Universe This video tells the very beginning of the Nine Realms in Norse Mythology. How Odin, Vili and Ve came to forge the shape of many of the realms, and what they made them from in the vast nothing of Ginnungagap. Odin narrates this tale, and explains the different realms, from asgard to jotunheim, midgard to hel, he explains what they're like and what creatures can be found within them! Including frost giants, trolls, elves, dwarves and more! Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them. This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience. All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos. There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries. These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays. I love the stark difference that is revealed between Odin and Zeus. With Zeus, he is flamboyant, cunning, witty, and prefers to take action when it suits him. With Odin, he is calm, reserved, quiet, patient, and prefers to consider everything before he acts. He is almost the polar opposite of Zeus. Lady Lighbringer, Sir Baldermort, keep up the good work. Yours Truly Zachariah

Say what? Dwarves are Dark Elves in Norse Mythology? That's news to me. Excellent as always. Lately I have been having difficulty commenting and keeping up with the channels I watch, but god damn I love you guys and what you do.
@kiltedcripple10 ай бұрын
Svartalfur is the actual term, literally "dark elf" Norse myth doesn't distinguish elves and dwarves the way Tolkein did, just as the term troll is widely applied too. Trolls is Norse myth could be everything to mischievous pixies to really bad people.
@awalkingfire217610 ай бұрын
@@kiltedcripple the term "giant" is also pretty nebulous, we know that Ymir, Surtr and a few Jotnar are large, but most jotun are treated as if they're about medium size.
@livingmythology140510 ай бұрын
As kiltedcripple, and awalkingfire2176 have noted - Norse mythology doesn't distinguish as much - there are different arguments about dwarves and dark elves and elves, so we decided to mention the multiple names - and Svartalfur/svartleheim and Nidavellir are multiple names for the same kind of place! Same as the term 'troll' or 'giant' - can refer to many things rather than the current public idea of a 'troll' or 'giant' - terms are more general in a way! It's quite confusing but very fascinating to go back to the old texts and read! Very fun! - Lightbringer

One of the Arch-Traitors, in the silence he condemns, but still a good man. I know it is hard to stand for those who are labeled so harshly for their lack of etiquette . Still, the man does good work. Good show.

Cool yeah. The Edas are some of the closest to facts that we have. So, these retellings are splendidly on point to the best of my knowledge. However, the God of War, Marvel, and other game baised things take the mythology/religion and create such inaccurate stories that many scream internally when it is quoted as fact. (Yes, I have met these people.) I personally would like to continue hearing the point of view things we are getting than venturing into modern fantasy.
