Canada is NOT improving - this was an embarrassment for the country's rugby community
@EdwardThe2nd.

You're being polite. Canada is now a tier 3 country in rugby. I have been following the men's rugby team since the 90's. They are the prototype of how to NOT run a national rugby program. They have no business playing anyone in Tier 1 and cannot beat anyone in Tier 2.

@@EdwardThe2nd. not yet. As a football nation, you should be proud of your fellow country members improvement over the years. Remember, South Africa 🇿🇦 do play American football. They get schooled. All countries that participate in rugby , is well received around the world. 2031 Rugby World Cup in USA. USA need to spend 100 million on a South African or New Zealand coaching team now to ensure USA make the finals in 2031 . I am betting on USA winning rwc 2031, only if you listen to my advice

Well, that was embarrassing. At least I can still recall the 1995 RWC when Canada literally went toe to toe with the eventual world champions. Those days are long gone.

Heard they had a comp similar to the NZ NPC that was literally the foundation for their upward projectory and progress, but some genius in RC decided to scrap that and eventually stuff the grassroots. Otherwise the Canucks would've been as good as Japan by now.

The USA will not develop a competitive side unless they play more matches. This is the first time they've played Canada in 3 years? Why? Playing Canada should happen several times a year. It's the most inexpensive fixture we can scheduled. No time zone stress on either team and the shortest travel distances we could hope for.

When teams fail to qualify for the RWC they lose a lot of funding. Rugby Canada’s over-emphasis on their “elite” programs, especially the men, redirected efforts and funding from the grassroots. At one point they were taking money from youth programs to put it into the men’s national program. A lot of club supporters, and junior players, gave up because of that selfish decision. Why pay registration when clubs struggle to maintain members, coaches, and facilities while the Rugby Canada brain trust gets the money? Media don’t care about rugby. Financial backers are few and far between. The government sends billions to Ukraine instead of investing in Canadian youth. When our next door neighbours host a World Cup, Canada won’t be there.

@@garywagner2466 Spot on assessment. Add the fact that RC is letting grown men play in women's club games (ie: Fergus Highland - Ash). RC has completely lost the plot. I feel bad for guys like Gareth Rees, Al Charron, etc. who set a respect for Canada in years past, only to see that falter away due to the utter incompetence by RC.

@@garywagner2466 No wonder they're set up for failure not realizing that the grassroots development is everything for "elite programs" to thrive from, and I thought Australia was screwed for similar issues even though I'm an All Blacks fan.
