I know it is just a mini-series, but with a wound to Main's left leg that causes a perpetual limp should also cause him to wince while mounting his horse. I would have thought the director would have thought of this and had Main always get on his horse on the other side.

@@JellyBeanInTheNight There is a general practice that most people are taught, which is to mount on the horse's left side. That's nothing to do with the horse as such, though. Some argue it puts a lot of strain on its back to always be mounted from the same side. For cavalry, on the other hand, there's a different issue, namely the sword. Since cavalry soldiers were taught to fight right handed (for the sake of being able to move as a unit, and for parade aestetic reasons), their swords would be attached on their left sides. Mounting the horse from the left reduces the chance of getting your left tangled with your sword :) However, in the case of Orry Main, his permanently injured leg meant that it would be far easier and less painful for him to mount and dismount on the right. Once out of the army, he would have nobody telling him not to and be unlikely to carry a sword as a civilian. And by the time he returned to military service he was a general, which meant he could do whatever he wanted, and would have an aide who could hold his sword while mounting and dismounting :)

They were not gentlemen. Forbes was handsome but a bad guy. Bent was pure evil and not even that good-looking. I always thought Orry was the perfect southern gentleman.
