One of my most favorite drives also. That and going up to Diablo lake. Sure would like to be mountain biking at Stevens Pass right about now.

Scenery very like Scotland, especially the section between Callender and Fort William. For anyone interested in visiting Scotland, there is a lovely scenic coastal route down from Fort William, pass Oban, Lochgilphead, Inveraray, Loch Lomond loop is a great day trip if you start and return to Stirling. Anti clockwise is how I do it. Toilet and fuel at Tyndrum where the road splits North to Fort William (via Glencoe) or West to Oban. History fans can read up about the "The Glen Coe Massacre of 1692" where Clan MacDonald were cowardly killed by Clan Campbell (who broke the Highland code of honour and hospitality on a bitterly cold winter's night when the Mac Donald clan gave them shelter from the snowstorm). Advice to visiting American Scots:, best not say you are of Campbell origin if you visit that area or ask for a tin of "Campbell's" soup at the local shop in Glen Coe.

We live just north of Highway 2 near I-5, and agree, the area is very much like Scotland. We loved our Scotland trip in 2017 and visited that very loop you described. One reason we enjoyed our Scottish trip is due to the similarities.

I have been wanting to take the drive but have an extreme fear of heights and driving near drop offs. It doesn't look like there are any on this drive. Are there? Thanks.

I’d say that there are some areas that might be scary with someone with your conditions. I have a mild fear of heights and can do the drive just fine.

My husband and I will be planning a trip out there sometime in April...we love to fish, any recommendations on where to go?

It depends what kind of fish and fishing into. There's many places here including Snake River and even Duwamish River (for salmon). WA is great for fishing.
