I grew up in Twisp/Winthrop in the 80s. Funny how its so different now. Yet still so familiar and the same. Not been back there in 10 years, but might go next summer to see the fire damage

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest I am reminded to not take this all for granted. My sister hosted visiting South Koreans and they were blown away at the miles and miles of forest land. But she was startled to hear them say "Not enough people"! We like it that way! Thanks for sharing the North Cascades. It's been a while since I took that route to visit family.

Bike riding grandma here again. Yes we rode across this pass, Washington Pass, and had about three more days of riding before we finished our. coast to coast bike trip. The scenery gets even better farther up.

I've lived in globally important cities most of my life across the world. Beleive it or not, I have family in Twisp. Its beautiful and not trashy. Its small co ops and serene untouched scenery in the middle of nowhere and few will ever experience. With the grapes, the high desert coniferous, old west haunts and mostly untouched, it really is a gem. I hope people don't start finding it with the influx of tech from around the world! To most of these people, they don't live here for the money. Call it low level elitism if you want but it preserves whats left. Eastern Washington Idaho, bc, Montana and much of the west coast really does remain untouched. The cities only started yo spring up not much over a century ago. If you want yo dissappear forever, nobody will find you. This remains the wild west if you have yhe skills of yesteryear. Nobody is doing face recognition at an Arco on the side of a two land highway. I noticed spell check is making my comment sound weird and negative words and symbols haha but I'm not going to try and fix it anymore. Its cool untouched area still.

We've made that North Cascade trip many times, most fun in the late 80s on a touring motorcycle. While technically they're all pines, they're different genus. What you're seeing are mostly Douglas Fir, Cedar, Western hemlock (the WA State tree), and a few Spruce.

I was there about a month after you were. Stayed in the Hotel Rio Vista which was on the left after you crossed the bridge. Went to the schoolhouse brewery that night and had an IPA and a reuben right by the Water and then went back to the hotel and wrapped up in a big blanket on the back porch to look at the stars by the river. The Cascades look pretty anytime but when they are snow covered they are unmatched. One of my favorite places in the world.

the cut through the Paysetan wilderness has a "message tree"; you come out into Canada by Manning Park, if your horse string hasn't been attacked by cougar, bear, or maybe wolves! Back in the day this was the way to the coast. The Cascade Range wasn't passable, and there were no roads.

So many of my friends who have to the Swiss Alps and throughout Europe said that they like the North Cascades better. Stevens Pass through the North Cascades is also incredible! Russ wanted to keep stopping because of the views and I kept thinking wait it only gets better. It probably took him twice the amount of time to get over pass. It doesn’t matter how many times you go over the North Cascades it never gets old and you are always in awe. Winthrop is a western town with boardwalks.

Hello as far as Withrop wash goes you need to stop there and check out the museum up on the hill lots of history and walk a round town it is based on the western theme sorry you missed all the good stuff the town had to offer 🇺🇸😷🤔Cjd wash state .p.s. we used to rent the koa camp ground for 3 years in a row in the late 70s for are van event we had around 300 to 350 custom vans start at Mt Vernon wash over high way 20 we called it the BIG FOOT RUN lots of good clean fun for all with custom vans p.s. at along the road by wash pass look out we had a baby and mom and dad BIG FOOTS along the road wave to everyone super great fun back then ⛰️😀

The fall colors along these routes are spectacular. It's a bit early but you still may catch some of them changing. Had you not taken the Hwy 20 route and opted to follow US-2 there's a couple of gorgeous things you would have seen along the way, as well as some extremely diverse landscape. The Dry Lakes state park area near Coulee City is jaw-dropping - you would have had a field day with the drone (if the winds were agreeable), and the mountain town of Leavenworth is Bavarian-themed and very, very pretty.
