I understand south is not upset that we are paying more taxes, we are worried that taxes that we are paying are going into politicians pockets rather than helping our north brothers. Definitely North states have improved. I cam vouch for it personally. Have been travelling since childhood. Its amazing to see the development. But our concern of money being utilised properly is more about population control. If we don't cap that, then few states will end up taking burden of over population. Be it south or north. Tomo MP Rajasthan can also argue/fight if UP/Bihar/WB population keeps increasing. Families with hum do hamaare do from 1971 should only be counted in population count. Others should be debarred from any schemes!

Let North be A and South be B. A contributes rs.10 and B contributes rs.20. Now rs.30 goes to politician and he/she pockets rs.10. Now he/she distributes remaining i.e. rs.20 among both A & B and not rs.30. The point is that when it comes to money pocketing, its a National issue not regional. And also building building needs more money than its maintenance. I am not supporting any region but explaining things in a simple way.

Dude forgot to answer important point. If population growth is sustainable in north as well, why 2026 south states get less representation. What is the motive behind this? One or two policies are not the main concern of southern states , but losing representation in the parliament is. With the family example: the son who earns more doesn’t have voice in the house, and the other son takes the authority to distribute the money. 👏👏

Population rate being sustainable doesn't mean population growth has stopped. Eg . It used to be 5-6 members per family but now it's 3-4 meaning population is still increasing but at a slower rate.

True. Totally true. Political delimitation should be altered. At least equal representation should be given to all states in Rajya Sabha. Economically, of course South needs less welfare and public infra spending, but politically, population should not be the only factor in federal representation. And penalty borne by us is great. For example, I'm from Andhra Pradesh and it lost nearly ₹ 24000cr of budget allocation and also never got special status as promised by central government (both Congress and BJP) Also they aren't increasing the amount for Polavaram Dam as project cost has increased. In Bihar ₹1710 crores worth bridge collapsed but no serious action was taken by central government. But they can't give some crores for Polavaram Dam completion.

You forget that Minerals and other Natural Resources exist in Karnataka, Andhra and Telangana as well, although not as much as those in the North. 5. the Policy itself got scrapped in 1990s, at the same time when India got Liberalised, pre-liberalisation, India didn’t had much development, so all states had more or less equal opportunity to attract investments for further industrialisation. 6. Industries don’t setup just due to coast, they set up at places close to major talent pool and where they have tax benefits and other incentives, otherwise Odisha being Both Coastal and Mineral rich should have benefited the maximum yet we see how their relative condition is. Also Punjab, Delhi and Haryana also have great industrialisation despite being far from Coast. Punjab and Gujarat literally share a border with terror and unstable Pakistan, yet know how developed they are. Let’s suppose even after my above arguments, Southern States growth was driven thanks to this policy, then after 1992 at least there should’ve been some relative improvement in northern landlocked states right, but we know how the situation in most states, the fact that this debate is most heated up now than before itself shows that states couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity of scrapping the Frieght Equalisation Policy. I accept that States of High Population or of Low Income needs more funds to reduce the gap and divide. But don’t you see that despite the disproportionate funds allocation the divide between these States is actually still increasing. I’m not an advocate for ‘Dravida Nadu’ but suppose Dravida Nadu was made country, even then saying the they’ll go bankrupt is not logical at all. If Debt to GDP ratio is the indicator you rely on, the fact is that present India would have more Debt to GDP ratio than an imaginary ‘Dravida Nadu’, even if we handover certain part of India’s debt to ‘Dravida Nadu’ as an agreement during Partition. Also, UP and Bihar should have been earlier and strict in Encouraging Population Control, while south traditionally didn’t even require such a policy at all, because basic anthropology and Population Studies tell that, denser and growing populations exist where abundance of food and water is there, where there lush green plain lands, suitable for construction agriculture and industrial development, UP and Bihar had all these, while south was majorly only Deccan plateau and mountainous eastern and western ghats with only rain fed rivers like Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri. With all this, I’m trying to tell that there exists a problem in certain states, people might call North vs South, Hindi vs South, etc. If you tell that recognising there is a problem itself is divisive agenda of mine, then yeah I am sorry to be divisive.

For your kind information the freight equalization policy has not benefitted any southern state as no state in the south has large steel plants and even the few that are there in places like bellary use locally sourced iron ore and yes using the 2011 census for the allocation of funds is unfair to southern states and its not just these points that concern the states for allocation of funds, the central government is not allocating funds even for infrastructure projects like building reservoirs and irrigation projects and have not released funds for areas affected by drought . I don't think it's an ethnocentric issue but about the states right to be allocated the funds they deserve and if they are not then what will be the incentive for one to grow when the laggards are being rewarded and the ones responsible for creating wealth punished

Greatly appreciate a lot of your past videos but can't agree with this one. The video is one sided pointing out why the logic of southern ministers maybe flawed while conveniently ignoring the decades of misgovernance and misplaced priorities in the northern states. The freight equalization policy benefitted Maharashtra and Gujarat as much as the state of Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh (erstwhile) and Karnataka grew with the IT/Software boom while the northern states (barring NCR) were napping. Looking at current birth rate nearing replacement rate is ignoring how compounding works. India's population in 1947 was approx. 34 cr, 76 years into 2023 UP & Bihar alone have that number. The debt burden on some of the southern states is partly because of draining away the funds from these states, and even the ones that are not in high debt metros are crumbling due to lack of infrastructure investments. Let's flip the questions here, for all the money disproportionately diverted to the northern states, can our brothers & sisters from the north whole heartedly say they were invested productively into employment generating assets? Are we sure their elected representatives have done justice to their problems with regards to employment generation, education, healthcare and getting investments? Why are we penalizing states for doing well instead of holding the ones who have not accountable? As a federal system, we are all for supporting all states, but this should not come at the cost of bankrupting the nation and killing the golden goose. Peace!
