North vs South India on Taxes

We all know that the Central Indian government redistributes the taxes that it receives from the different states. But while some states in the North - like Bihar - receive a lot more than they pay as direct tax to the Centre, others such as Tamil Nadu receive far lesser. This has led many South Indians with a sense of resentment against the Northern states, with the argument being that the Central government is actively discriminating against them. This argument is strengthened when you see the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, the body that regulates how much money is to be given to states. But the Northern states argue that historical policies have given the South an advantage. We dive into the complex history and policies behind this issue to determine who is truly right in the latest video.

I'm from Tamilnadu. Once i attended interview for a private bank (ICICI) in Hyderabad. I cleared 1st round at 2nd round 2 members were there one guy is from South and another lady from North. For that job they don't ask for Hindi mandatory but English mandatory in description. That South Indian selected me but at last he said,"Mam do you have any questions to candidate". She questions me in Hindi and forced me to talk Hindi even I told that i didn't know. If needed, i will learn. But she keep on asking,"Are you from Tamilnadu". Tamil and English languages only known by you. She harshly said you can't speak everyone with your Mother Tongue Tamil. Even that sir in the interview also shocked and rejected me for Hindi. I always see no difference between Indians.North ,East, Central or South all are indians but why North people behave like this.

He didn't talk because Maharashtra & Gujarat didn't raise their voices on this issue unlike South Indian states which had raised the matter seriously when 15th Finance commission visited these states before preparing their report. Also South states has raised their voices through media which is why it has become South Vs North kind of rhetoric. One main issue here is political parties, in Maharashtra & Gujarat - INC & BJP are major parties who fight in elections - both national parties. In south Indian states, except Karnataka all states have fight between regional parties with strong communist party in Kerala. So South has strong ruling regional parties whose main focus is their state. So usually they raise their voices on these kind of injustice.

As a Maharashtrian, I can tell you that I'm absolutely baffled by these figures. We're not mad that our tax money is being used to build infra and RRTS trains in U.P, but we're mad about the fact that most of our hard earned tax money goes into the pockets of corrupt politicians. To say that North Indians had a major contribution in the development of South Indian states is a big mistake. North Indian labourers only started working in Southern states only recently. I am a South Indian and it is only in the last 10 - 15 years we have seen an influx of laborers from the North. Southern states like Kerala have only their people to thank for the development their state has made in social, economic, and infrastructure aspects.

The other way to look at it is, the workers living in their own state didn't have any work or good business. But they heard the cheap quality of life and labour requirement and job opportunities in the south, which were created by the south govts and they migrated. South indian states have controlled and reduced their population over the years, whereas in northern states the story is opposite. South Indians states always had to carry the burden of BIMARU states, unfortunately north indian states because of their population had got huge representation in parliament and hence dominate national politics, and hence south indians are ignored always preference is given to north indian states, be it highways or other development schemes, south indian states are only a treasure/cash cow to the govt of india, they don't treat south india as a part of india. Correctly said!. Already in vote politics National parties are concentrating only on UP, Bihar, MP and Rajastan (Hindi Belt). if they win, solidly they will get MP seats more than 200. Wherein if we consider south: Kerala, TN, Karnataka, AP, Telugana < 100 MP seats. Just think. In vote politics 200 seats are more than enough for ruling entire india. hence always politics will be based on hindi belt.
