For anyone wondering, North Korea does not allow Google maps because it is a concern to their national security; the same reason why the USA does not allow Google maps to display military secrets. If North Korea were to allow this, they worry that their neighbours (South Korea) who are very strongly backed and trained by the USA will be able to easily invade them using the data from these maps. This is not far fetched considering that the USA are very much afraid of North Korea and its crazy rocket man dictator. Similarly, if China were to allow the same, because they back North Korea (and are pretty much the only reason why North Korea still exists currently) then if North Korea's crazy little rocket man did something then they would also be dragged into war with the West. China prefer to take a more neutral stance currently so they don't piss other countries off, that is until you double cross them, hence why when Russia went and did something China specifically asked them not to do because China wanted to build a train route or something they lost favour with China, and is also why China have not come out swinging with Russia in this war with Ukraine, but is also why the West hasn't exactly come out swinging against Russia (because nobody wants a war with China). If these things happened, and war with China happened, China also worry that Google maps could be used to gather data that would be paramount to an invasion or war with the West. Another reason why both of these countries don't allow this is due to the censorship that both dictatorships employ. Their whole dictatorship's existence solely relies on this censorship system, telling the citizens there is nothing happening while many bad things happen in the background. If they did not apply this censorship they would be exposed to the world and also to their country which would be detrimental to the existence of the country. China relies mostly on exports, if their censorship went away and all of their misdeeds came to light, no country would buy from them and their economy would collapse within weeks. North Korea relies on its relationship with China and Russia, but also relies on its nuclear capability which they often use as a scare tactic against countries like the USA who fold and send medical or food aid to them. If North Korea's censorship went away, these nuclear targets could be destroyed, and combined with China's economical collapse and Russia's ongoing war they would have nothing left to deter an invasion. This is also why people that attempt to circumvent the censorship are considered enemies of the state.

If it's wrong to say he stole the poster than it's also wrong to say he was murdered. We don't know if he actually stole the poster. We do know however that at least some of what he confessed too was bullshit, whether he made this up under duress or was reading a script is also unknown. That being said there is no evidence he was deliberately harmed in any way and in fact the evidence demonstrates he received much better medical care than could be expected by the majority of North Koreans. tl,dr you made a error, please correct. DW is not north korean it's german, and the state has absolutepy 0 say in what they broadcast. They just fund it. 4:40 what are you talking aout? DW is a GERMAN public broadcast service. The german public broadcast services are news companies wich agree to refuse from any other funding through for example advertisement (for the most part) and in turn get funded through german tax payers money. This was designed by the USA and UK after ww2 to prpvide the german public with a domestoc, impartial news coverage and has since then achived a position pf hogh regards and trust among the german public. They are so impartial that german public broadcasting news providers have even uncoverd scandals and cases of corruption within german parties and the goverment. In fact they, more often then not, critticise the very goverment of germany which provides there fumding, simply becouse they know there is nothing the german goverment can do against it.

Hey, would like to voice a correction here: DW is separate from the rest as it is directly funded and owned by the government. All the other public broadcasts are funded by the people directly with a monthly fee called the „Rundfunkbeitrag“ which makes it financially independent of the government. They are truly independent unlike DW who reports to the government. DW does have a relatively good track-record with accuracy but are by definition less trustworthy than the rest.

That's the USS Pueblo. She was a spy ship captured by North Korea in 1968 and is now used as a propaganda museum. Fun fact about the USS Pueblo is that she's still an active US Navy ship and has never been formally decommissioned. In London we have HMS Belfast.

These could then be moved down if the map data is ever released. That way the culture can remain whilst explicitly saying we do not tolerate or condone the leader's behaviour.

Funny you made the skidrow comment on Washington D.C. - Having been to D.C. myself more than a few times and living not far away, I can safely say the homeless population are ever-present from the moment you step out of the train or arrive in D.C. There are bad neighborhoods you don't want to go to either, literally just a few streets away. I walked the streets at night which you would think the capitol would feel safe to walk at night, but you take just one turn into a street and it turns real bad real quick, especially homeless with tents sleeping everywhere on the sidewalks. There are some real worn down areas that could certainly use improvement. The roads are in worse shape than my hometown roads in some areas! This is the CAPITOL! Granted there is far more DC has to offer than NK obviously.

You said sometimes it will show it is supported and funded by North Korea, but the screenshot you showed said it was a German Public Broadcast service. How is German anything to do with North Korea? I feel like that needs to be explained.
@kerkonig51029 ай бұрын
Tldr, He made an error. There is zero dokumentation about north korea from north korea. Simple as that. For some reason youtube adds disclaimers on any and all videos made by the german public broadcast services. Those are a bunch of german news companies(?) who get funded by the german state, and as exchange don't advertise and provide there news for no cost/very little cost (mostly, some exceptions to advertisement and subscriptions/cost apply). The german state has no say in what they broadcast/publicise and more often then not these very broadcast services have uncovered corruption and scandals with german polititians/the german goverment. It was designed after ww2 by the UK and the USA following a simmilar system as the BBC at the time (iirc). For obviouse reasons thats why it was dsigned to be impartial and disconnected from politics/political partys. Basicly whenever you see the german public broadvsst disclaimer you can be a bit more trusting of the informations presented. (still always use multiple sources and compare them. You know, standard media competence(?)). He just saw the "public broadcasting service" amd went apeshit crazy on "oh no its goverment narative it must be the koreans shaping there narative" amd didn't see that thats not what the youtube disclaimer is about.

No no no no no. The reason South Korea has not allowed google maps is because it does not need to. We have our own online map system that actually works with the advanced public transport system and it's tied to our bigges search engine(Naver) so it is even more convinient. If you search for, say, a restraunt in SK on a google maps, 9 times out of 10 it doesn't even show the correct open and closing times. However, all that information and more(the operating hours, how to get to that location from where you are at, etc.) There is no need to provide to google and/or pay them to accurately record map data and all the other stuff, because what we have is already very well established.
