My grandfather severed in Korea at the battle of The Chosin Resivour. He fired rifle so continously that he received 3rd degree burns on his right hand near the trigger and second degree on his left hand. My great uncle fought there too. I was passed his name as my middle name. I never knew him. But he was a remarkable man my father tells me. @@annyeongjadooya In Vietnam, history is written by the victor, that is the current Communist regime of Vietnam. In the minds of the Vietnamese , up to 3/4 of the population do not have the same thoughts as the authorities. They only considered the previous Vietnam War as a civil war, the end result of which was a victory on the Communist side, like the inter-Korean war. Only the state-led media slander the crimes of former South Korean soldiers and uphold North Korea. Most of those who cursed at Korea were brainwashed by the Communist media, coming from poor rural areas in the North, who went to export labor to Korea and evaded their visas. Most of them come from the provinces of North Vietnam. Moreover, the former South Vietnamese government was also allied with south Korea, helping the people of South Vietnam fight against the communist !

Moreover, the hostility from China, the sanctions from the United States and most importantly is the weakening of the Soviet Union make a great economic depression in Vietnam. The Korean peninsular is mostly mountains, so there is almost no extra space for strategic maneuvers. This results in extremely intense close combat in division size, making thousands of casualties just for advancing a few miles. This is why most casualties are caused after the front line got stuck around 38 parallel, not during blitzkrieg all the way up and down at the early war.

It's not 'for nothing'. Also, casualties do not mean deaths. A great many of these people who were killed/injured were those defending South Korea from being taken over by the brutal and totalitarian communist North Korea. You only need to look at North and South Korea today to see whether the people who died defending S Korea did so 'for no reason'. It would be better to phrase this as "North Korea started a war for no good reason and with only suffering and pain to show for it".
@Some_Average_Joe
@Some_Average_Joe 2 ай бұрын
@maynardburger You have a few misconceptions there. 1) South Korea attacked first. Their plan was terrible (they were greatly outnumbered for one thing) and the North saw it coming. The "unprovoked" North Korean "invasion" was a counterattack. 2) The South Korean government was a dictatorship more brutal than North Korea until the 1980s. Syngman Rhee (who lead South Korea during the war) spent more time executing political prisoners than he did fighting the North. We're talking 100s of thousands of executions. He was so awful that entire South Korean units would just defect to the North. He also killed every pro-democracy activist he could get his hands on, North and South. 3) The current economic disparity between the North and South is a recent development. After the war North Korea recovered much quicker and outpaced South Korea greatly. The only reason South Korean surpassed them was the US pumped billions into the South's economy.

The war had far more incommon with WW1 than it did the recently finished WW2. After the large movement phases earlier in the war by both sides it then became bogged down in trenches, patrolling, night raids, artillery and frontal assaults on narrow frontages usually up hills and spurs. Night time was fighting patrols in No Mans Land between opposing lines, dodging minefields and trying to snatch prisoners for intelligence. A very brutal and forgotten war by many.

@user-xl6fy3wg5p
@user-xl6fy3wg5p Ай бұрын

Shooting at slow landing crafts in the water is much much easier than at fast-moving choppers/tilt rotor aircrafts when SEAD(Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) ops is done in advance properly from the air.

Later, North Korea hoped to seek reunification. The Unification War was launched with the tacit approval of the Soviet Union. Then the Americans intervened. formed the current situation. North Korea remains divided. and are hostile to each other. And China has only one request. North Korea must exist. North Korea cannot be controlled by the United States. and garrisoned troops.

Great simulation. My dad told me a couple times when I pressed him of what happened. I remember him telling of landing in Korea to stop the complete takeover of the peninsula and then having to retreat from way up north. What a grueling war. This simulation really puts into focus what kind of effort went into this war. Thank you.

Why did it go from 220k to 221k and back to 220k before going back to 221k around 1950/09/13 - 1950/09/19 for the North Koreans? Also what do the numbers on the map represent since they do not match the number of casualties? I am very confused.

One of the reason how South Korea and its allies were able to strike back towards Seoul (The capital) was because of the plan by the United State's General Douglas MacArthur to executive Incheon landing. Which was a port city that the North side held. The success of this landing allowed South to push them back and it can be seen in the video.
