'Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It'. Remember, Germany in the pre-World War II era, was imposed upon with numerous and heavy war reparations, tariffs and sanctions by Western Colonial Powers for over a quarter century; eventually when that nation sank into mega depression, which made way for World War II, as Germany struck back. A similar scenario ran in Japan, when that nation too was bullied by maritime sanction; essentially blocking the whole island through naval blockade by Anglo Western naval ships for so long until Japan ran out of (imported) oil, and struck back at Pearl Harbor naval base that participated in year-long sanctions. People of North Korea have suffered long enough, a quarter century of sanctions by the West, resulting in the death of over a million innocent people due to starvation & famine. It's all come down to the West's dependency on China's Rare Earth Minerals. North Korea is targeted by the Imperialist West all because it possesses the second largest deposits of 'Rare Earth Metals' in the world; worths several Trillion Dollars. These very rare 'Rare Earth Metals', are essential ingredients in modern electronic equipment. They are found largely in places like China & N. Korea, which held three quarters of world's rare earth reserves. Remember, twenty years ago, it was Iraq, and Saddam, and WMD (weapon of mass destruction). The real motive was Oil. Today, it is North Korea, and Kim, and nuclear weapons. The real motive is Rare Earth Minerals. Same old lame old Colonialist-turned Capitalist Imperialist trick. She started talking about NK on a very popular show in South Korea. It got to a point where the government wanted her to change her name and she said it’s the one legacy she has from her father and wouldn’t. SK meant sincerely they were scared for her safety. NK basically has a hit out on her for being too honest and saying this kind of stuff. The tv show got back to NK and I’m sure people watched it secretly and started having questions. Either way she is in Chicago now so I feel like she’s much safer. But like some said she had a rough rough escape. Her family was upper class. But then the 90’s famine happened and her dad was in the black market with steel I think to have food for the family. He got caught and went to a camp and live got harder. Her sister escaped first and for years they didn’t know if she died. Eventually the SK government contacted her and her mom to say they had her sister at one of their defector camps that SK has to help for the initial escape when you get to SK. So they got reunited. You should look up her story. She’s beyond brave.

It’s supposed to bring attention to situations like this in the real world where men are defining women’s own sexual autonomy “for the women’s own good”, but ultimately just boils down to controlling women for their own political or sexual benefits. You have to see how crazy the Kim family is. There are some really excellent but horrifying documentaries on KZbin about North Korea, their armies and forced labor camps, their insane laws and punishments for breaking them, their sale of slaves to Russia (happening now), their prisons and “re-education camps as well as what people go through when they try to defect). These is critical information for people in the western world to know. Please watch and share the knowledge you gain. Kim Jong Un should be tried for crimes against humanity, but it won’t happen if we don’t bring the issue to the forefront of our political conversations.

Maybe to us it’s horrible but to them it can be a lifesaver. It might not even be brainwashing necessarily...we’ve never experienced poverty or hunger to that extent. My grandparents have nearly starved in a famine, and they say that it’s amazing what people will do to survive when they’re starving. Many good people became monsters. It is disgust to see that such young girls being sexually exploited just because these older men find them attractive. This goes against one of the most vital human rights and that is choice. Choice can be enpowering but sadly not a lot of people have that right. North Korea sounds like a very scary place, maybe not all of it, but definitely the majority. The even scarier fact is the people go through this all around the world. This can even happen is one of the most 'free' countries, America. In fact the are so many children being beat, starved and even sexually exploited in foster care. One day i decided i wanted to give out gifts to homeless ppl on the streets of new york. I saw a homeless pregnant woman with one of her homeless friends and they werent even asking for money the were asking for maybe just something to eat. She had been domestically abused and escaped and its sad to see that this is what happened. So i bought her and her friend a meal from red lobster and gave her the gifts. The gift contained clothes, clean underwear, and soap, literally basic things to survive and she cried. No one should be going through any trauma that deals with taking away basic rights. No one should have to obey another human being. These are minors, these are people. Human trafficking needs to stop, the abuse needs to stop. How can a person be so corrupt. If you can eat you are privileged. I think anyone is privlaged who doesnt have to worry about having their privlage taken away.

I believe that being an ugly girl myself is what kept me "safe" and with "the feet on the ground". I'm so grateful for not being pretty. Beauty is a knife with a double edge.

Beauty is a blessing and a curse, for sure. My mom was very beautiful (still is, even at fifty-one) and went into modeling at a young age. Because of her looks, she's suffered so much trauma. Assaulted and abused again and again throughout her life- first at fifteen years old and most recently at forty-seven a few years ago. There are many different ways her beauty has caused her strife, but that's always been the worst aspect of it.

I'm sorry, i wouldn't agree with that. Beauty is not a "knife with double edge" if talking about life outside North Korea. It is all about mentality, education, and above all, morality of that pretty woman. I'm sorry again, but you sound like you found some kind of "justification" and praise that for not being attractive. I'm not judging people by look, how can I, its God who created us as we are, but what we can do is be confident, be smart take care of ourselves, and not let that not attractive part effect us. Saying that you are "grateful" for not being pretty is just a lie to yourself.

Same. although its hard to be ugly in a world that is so judgemental atleast im safe with other abused in life.
