Here, the gray zone confrontation is going on every day. As a South Korean, I think it is inevitable. There is only one language totalitarian thugs understand. Retaliation. North Korea is desperate to prove its raison d'etre to China and Russia. China is increasingly viewing NK as a bad asset, since it is becoming more and more clear that the US-South Korea-Japan trilateral framework will not be coerced by NK's nukes and missiles, which were supported by China. China's dilemma: 1) It can not change the NK regime or rule it, since North Koreans are brainwashed to be extremely xenophobic , aware of SK’s prosperity and have strong (latent) expectation to be reunified. 2) It can not tolerate NK going rogue with its nukes and missiles. The only reason this peninsula (the linchpin of the First Island Chain, the most dangerous flash point) is in peace is that if a war breaks out here, China can not help being burned badly. It is only 1,000 km from Seoul to Zhongnanhai, Beijing. 800km to Shanghai. 500 km to the most important submarine base Qingdao. About 6 or 7 of the Chinese top-ten energy-import ports are within 1,000 km radius from Seoul. For the various weapons SK is operating, 1,000 km is next-door. China can ruin SK; but the latter can destroy some of the most important parts of the former. No need to talk about the meaning of 28,000 GIs forming a Nuclear-Conventional Dual Mode COMBINED Forces with the (550,00 active and 2,500,000 reserve) South Korean Forces, directly backed by 50,000 GI's deployed in Japan. Now it is high time for China to decide: to swallow NK and try in vain to rule it directly or just to let it go.

Uh.. 130 miles sounds a little short in distance to be too far for a drone. Western UAVs can stay in the air for days and they can be miles up in the sky. It is actually that close though. The NK reunification highway is about 170km in length from the DMZ.

I just saw a Reddit post earlier that some Chinese are sending personal drones to take pictures, I doubt North Korea has proper CCTV to monitor where it came from. They have early 2000s or even late 90s cameras.

Quick question DW, exactly how many countries at war constitute a World War?
@JT-bs2lm
@JT-bs2lm 4 сағат бұрын
Just multiple powerful countries. There is no exact measure lol. We can even consider WW1 as just European War. I think it will be a World War if either US or China actively joined or if the Middle East and Ukraine-Russia war spread to Europe. China-Taiwan and North-South Korea seems to looming in but hopefully not as South Korea without Nuclear would level North while Taiwan may fight to death against China.

I don't believe we have done it as South Koreans. The South Korean parliament was questioning high-ranking military officials just when North Korea accused South Korea of sending leaflets. Upon hearing the news about North Korea, the lawmakers immediately questioned Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun. The Minister initially said, "We've never done such things," and added that he "doesn't know what's going on." After an hour of meeting with his advisors, the minister changed his wording, saying, "I have no choice but to express that I can't strategically confirm it." The Defense Ministers in South Korea are traditionally held by ex-military generals, which means that the ministers are actually specialists. The fact that the Minister did not know what was going on implies that the South Korean military was not responsible.

Formerly a single nation that was annexed by Japan in 1910, the Korean Peninsula has been divided into North Korea and South Korea since the end of World War II on 2 September 1945. The two governments were founded in the two regions in 1948, leading to the consolidation of division. In the last days of the war, the United States proposed dividing the Korean peninsula into two occupation zones (a U.S. and Soviet one) with the 38th parallel as the dividing line.
