True, but it takes about 9.5 miles to get a C-5 airborne and 8.2 miles for it to land. (I’m being facetious). In our current wars the C-17 works out great. Short landings and takeoffs. Great replacement for the 130, but the 130 is still the workhorse.

@Mitchell Pettijohn I was too but then I thought about it and realized that the interviewer is Korean as well and most likely is not familiar with US Military anything. They probably did a Google search for US Military transport planes and since the C17 is the newest one it was at the top of the search returns. The C17's replaced the very aging C141's. The C141's came before the C5's and were very much in need of a replacement. I have no idea if the Air Force plans to replace the C5's or just let them slowly phase out from attrition and just use the C17's for all large transport jobs once they are all gone but I would love to see what they are going to replace those monsters with if they do replace them.

@Alexi Malenkov They have plenty of the weapons tests on KZbin just not any of the rail gun firing from a destroyer because they aren't ready but the guns themselves are in production and its likely that we will be seeing them on vehicles and aircraft in the near future.

@Alexi Malenkov That really doesn't matter very much. Once the gun is installed the destroyer stops being a destroyer and becomes more like a floating AT gun. The ship is just a set of wheels for the gun, it's not going to be doing anything else. If the gun fires and the ship is operational then theres really nothing else to be proven.

Yup! A sky crane is often used in civilian work. It's used to assemble radio towers or transmission powerlines or just stuff in remote places. Along with variants used for fighting forest fires and such. The new sky crane choppers have a crane operator that lies down and looks below, he's able to maneuver the chopper from that position. It's also able to have computer assisted flight stabilization to keep the chopper from drifting while assembling radio towers and such. But, I'm sure you're familiar with this chopper as well. ;) It's amazing to watch these choppers in action and the skill of the pilot.

It would be interesting to see his reaction to videos of the AC-130 gunships. The videos of its fire power is staggering. There are many videos of actual combat footage of this aircraft in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am glad he was fortunate enough to make it out of North Korea. He seems to be honest about how things were in North Korea and very grateful to have made his way out.

OKAY. THANK YOU FOR USING REFERENCE MATERIAL THAT REFERS TO THE CHINOOK AS A SHINOOK. It's named after a native tribe in the Pacific northwest of the US, and is pronounced shinook as a point of respect to those peoples. I hear americans get it wrong all the time, and it absolutely grinds my gears, as the US has so badly mistreated the natives, that we barely remember how to pronounce their names when we name killing machines after them. So thank you.
