The AC-130 did get replaced, the Air Force Special Operations Command got the funding for new gunships. As you guessed it, the new gunships are the brand new AC-130J. They only have two guns now, the 30mm cannon and the 105mm Howitzer they added two hard points on the wings for missiles like the Hellfire and small diameter bombs. They also modified the cargo door in the back to launch rockets and smaller missiles from inside the airplane. They are currently testing an offensive Lazer on the new gunships, it should be operational in a couple of years.

If they can get all these laser things operation it's gonna be pretty awesome. All the branches seem to be working on them in some form. And at some point the Navy is going to figure out the rail gun and that's going to be badass.

@@mycroft16 why waste time ona rail gun when they have lasers rha5 cam burn through anything
@mycroft16
@mycroft16 4 ай бұрын
@patient_6925 yes, they can burn a hole the diameter of the beam... but there are plenty of ways to stop them. Thin film and meta material coatings can easily block laser weapons. Thin film that reflects the wavelength of the laser, and add a doubled up layer to create destructive interference in the beam and you not only reflect above 95% of the light, but add an out of phase copy that cancels out most of the beam amplitude. If you use a meta material like graphene nano tube you can simply redirect the beam and absorb energy out of it as heat which just gets dissipated. Lasers are not the be all end all. Nor are rail guns. But a hypersonic slug of something dense is going to have enough kinetic energy to obliterate all but the most ridiculously over thick armor. Even explosive amd ablative armor aren't going to do much in the face of that kinetic energy. Lasers are great for taking out missiles and bombs. Rail gun rounds are great for hitting bunkers, buildings, and punching giant holes in ships.

@@mycroft16 Our material sciences are no-where near good enough for a rail gun that actually makes sense. The biggest problem with rail guns is they destroy themselves during use. No sense in building an entire ship around a gun that's going to shoot itself to pieces.

I watch this as an ac-130 flies above in the sky lol. I live in Clovis nm Cannon AFB here has them stationed here. There is a target range 20 miles west of here and on a clear quiet night you can hear the rounds raining hell on whatever they shooting lol. We built a tower in the plateau of said target range a few years back so I got a front row seat almost everyday working out there. Truly an impressive. At 4:30 mark is the sigel for the AfB here in Cannon. I actually put that decal up on the water tower. True story

I do miss seeing the C-130 and wish I could have taking an inside look at the AC-130. I worked on a C-130 Flight Simulator from 1984 ~ 1988 while stationed at McChord AFB in Tacoma. It was fun to test the simulator out after some maintenance was completed ;)

The C-130 platform isn't going to be replaced anytime soon because the US Military hasn't developed anything quite as versatile and rugged as it. You'd think using a bigger cargo plane would make sense, but the C-17 Globemaster III and C-5 Galaxy both move too fast with their multiple jet engines to stay in a pylon turn as long as the AC-130 can. The C-5 and C-17 both demand paved runways, where the C-130 can go anywhere there's a clear flat straight line. But to also point out how rugged it is, there's really only one aircraft being sent into hurricanes while still being manned. That's the WC-130, now upgraded to the WC-130J Weatherbird. And I'm not saying like flying around the outer part of a hurricane getting bits of data. I mean they flight straight through the thing into the eye and back out collecting data the whole way through. The C-130 platform can do that, they haven't tried that with any other cargo platforms. To also add to that, there's only been 1 loss of a WC-130 back in the 1970's. Since then, we've never had a WC-130 go down from a mission. There's just a very deep niche the C-130 has carved that the US Military can't cut their dependence on yet. That's for a slower cargo airplane that's able to function off of any kind of runway and also loiter if needed and take the brunt force of the recoil of several 105 mm howitzer shots from inside. That just hasn't been something the US Military has sent an ad out for or have been in the market for in.....well about 50 years or so.

Rolls Royce Merlin V12 powered many British and US planes as well as British tsnks. This engine was made under license by Allison for the P-51 Mustang. Which propelled the Mustang to be even greater. The RR Merlin was a very significant factor in the allied victory of WW2.

When the C-130 first came out They had a team of pilots flying them at air shows They modified the engines so they can fly them upside down. At some airshow flying upside down will tail almost touching the runway less than the height of a man. To me the most spectacular was when four of them come in together at about 400 mph on a collision course, then just before they hit go vertical. If you can find a video of it they were called the flying horseman.

The video is suspect, as the metric measurements shown were of a C 17 Globemaster. The USAF is replacing the older C130 airframes with new airframes purpose built. Additionally, as mentioned in another comment, Big USAF is testing Griffin missiles ejected and launched via the ramp. The USMC mounted Griffin missiles during deployments to Iraq/Afghanistan. The reason for the Commando Dagger in the badge is that when USAF Spec Ops started, they were called Air Commandos.

But, if u do some research and look up Lockheed Skunk Works, which has documented knowledge out on the web and yt. Then, you would be mindblowned as to what they produce. Back engineered craft not from this world , craft that negate gravity and physics, also other worldy technology that can suspend things weighing 10's of tons , is all believed to be there.

Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊 P.S.: From their operating height, we were told the guns could put 1 round per 1 square meter on the ground wherever they are shooting at! The newer guns/targeting systems may have improved on that accuracy point..

Aerial gunships are nothing new in the US Military. The AC-47 "Spooky" and the Fairchild AC-119G/K gunships were used to great effect in Vietnam and the Vietnamese Army/Vietcong were terrified of them, and that was over 50 years ago. The AC-47 was armed with three 7.62mm miniguns while the AC-119 combined miniguns with a 20mm rapid fire cannon. They had a devastating effect on the battlefields.😉

He said he thought someone shot him in the head at first until he seen the casings laying all around him. He said he was pretty sure he got a concussion from it but they were in a gunfight so it didn't matter. He ended up offing himself a few years ago. He did like 12 tours. He left highschool early and joined right after 911. I tried to as well but they military wouldn't take me cause I had a glass eye even tho I was top 100 state sporting clays shooter for multiple years growing up. Even with 1 eye. We used to go shooting and he would get so mad at me cause I'd let him have the draw and then I'd shoot the clay after him. With a cig in my mouth lol. all my friends won't go shooting with me anymore cause I dominate them all and they get so mad cause I ruin the fun of it they tell me. Last summer I worked at the gun range and invented a new way to shoot 5 stand. U both shoot at the same clays and who ever shoots it first gets the point. Most points wins. U blow threw a lot more ammo tho. But it's fun as hell

Also "AC130 against talibans" which has a bunch of 20mm rotary cannon action. Both are pretty high up night vision so there isn't gore and it shows how absolutely devastating the 130 gunships are

I would say that the AC-130 isn't a flying tank...it's a flying mini-battleship (or destroyer due to its size). The AC-130J even more so.

Hello sir . I am a very big fan of you and your content . Your expertise of military and your reaction is very genuine. But my request to you is asking of a reaction video on the weapons of the main adveries of USA such as China and Russia. Cause as much I know they also have a hold on to very powerful and modern weapons.

If you also want to see a cool and badass plane, look at a video about the Russian Tu-160 Blackjack. The biggest Russian plane and if I remember it is also the biggest Military plane and holds serval records under the belt
