I enjoyed this deep dive. In Prof. Lennox's introduction, I heard: "Canadian cannot ignore the United States growing up, but what I've learned, teaching here, is that Americans CAN ignore Canada." He may have said, "Americans CANNOT ignore Canada." Either way, I commend him for his courage, and applaud his audience for listening with open ears. Hailing from New Brunswick, Canada here.

I was born & raised in Michigan, less than 1 hr from our border with Canada, and have always loved Canada and Canadian History, which is not even remotely taught in schools when I was a child, and now it's less than zero. The founding Father of our City, Flint, was from Canada, named Joseph Smith, and he was barely known, though an amazing man. The fact that Michigan was once Canada, until the USA 'acquired' it after 1812, is not ever mentioned. The British victories at Forts Dearborn (now Chicago), Mackinaw and Detroit, are also not mentioned, nor the important Naval defeats on Lakes Erie & Ontario, and the US burning of defenseless Yorktown, (now Toronto) the Capital of Ontario. This act of revenge for the destruction of the gunpowder at the Fort York, on Lake Ontario, which killed 37 soldiers, General Pike and injured 222 US Marines, caused the British to burn the White House in counter revenge. I imagine the world if the British had won the War 1812, as the defeat at Fort McHenry in Baltimore shifted an expected British victory into a major come from behind US win. Canada had promised the Native Nations that Michigan, Minn. Wisc. and the majority of the Iroquois' Nation would remain reserved for an Independent Indigenous Nation, if they would fight for their side. They did fight for the British, with Canada, but after the defeat, the US 'Annexed' the entire Territory, and exiled the Indigenous Nations from their ancestral homeland.

Good man and obviously well read with an open mind. Real American history suffers the same ignoble fate as all USA weather reports. Ends at the border line.

My ancestors were from the upper state ( Province as known then) NY. They fought with Sir John Johnson's 1st and 2nd Battalion.
