It was an advertising venture where they dropped a 9' foot candy striped steel pole along with 5,000 + letters to Santa. Plates don't have a top or bottom either since the idea of a top or bottom is purely precived by a person. With plates like this "__" I presume you came up with where the top and bottom of this "__" plate is. With plates like this "I" or like this "/" I presume you also came up with the idea of where the top and bottom is. Now clearly, plates like this "I" or this "/" are not as suitable for placing food on top of as well as plates like this "__" but they still have a top and bottom. Now just like the plates, search for the top and bottom of this circle "O" and now that you have the idea of where the top and bottom of a 2D object is, apply the same idea to 3D object like a sphere or a ball as you put it "⚽️". If you said the soccer ball had no top or bottom you are wrong, if you put the top and bottom anywhere on the soccer ball, as long as the top and the bottom points are facing parallel and opposite sides from each other, you are right. At the end of the day any object can have a top or bottom as long as 2 points are on the object and the 2 points are on parallel and opposite sides of each other.
